[WIP] Bioshock 2 Drill

Hello !

Working on this weapon from Bioshock 1 & 2. THE DRILL!

Please don't mind the front portion (the bit) as I just prepared the mesh for Zbrush. The back portion is where it's at.

Please give me feedback on the whole thing though.

The drill bit will be damaged and chipped in Zbrush after.

The "Smaller Drill Head" is too straight. And is missing those little dimples. Also, the ridges on the "Six Drill Heads" should be pushed more.

When you say too straight you mean, they should be tilting a bit forward? I tilted the big ones after posting here.

As for the ridges on the drill heads, thanks, hadn't noticed! On it!

If you look at the concept, The "Smaller Drill Head" seams to have more of a shape to it, as if it kind of bubbles in the middle. Or tapers off or something, it's hard to pin point but there is definitely something there that your model doesn't have. It gives that are of the weapon, visually, more energy and better shapes to look at.

May I ask how you've modeled the drill? I suck at sub-d and it looks like a pain of a shape to model.

@Felipefrango : Hi, it's not sub-d, only primitives. Cone with an Helix Spline.

They'll be join in Zbrush. I don't need them to be attached.

Not sure how close your gonna follow the concept but the counter rotating blade of the drills on yours is going the opposite way. Would be cool to see this is a first person view.

Nice. I thought about modelling the drill too.

I'm currently working on the high poly for the Ion Laser from Minerva's Den.

Nobody has said it yet so I'll ask... I'm guessing this is a high poly and not an actual asset, looking at the polycount. If so, most of that mesh simply wont work well when it comes to rendering your normals, theres zero chamfer work in most places, and where there is chamfer work, its so small it wont show up.

Now as a model piece, its fantastic, and I really like it. But just keep the above in mind if you are planning on creating a normal map onto a lower poly mesh.

@Odium : It's is my high poly. However, the whole front piece is my Zbrush basemesh. This is why the topology is all equal quads.

Now, the "back" part is all going to be baked down. Are the edges too tight?

Small update. Working on a 3-yrs old shitty laptop on a 15" screen is a real PITA.

Re-did the larger head screws, tried to add bulkiness and made the screwing part slightly bigger.

Is it better?

Damn I suck @ working with cylinders and supporting edges.

Alright baked down the front portion, I need this done for my demo ASAP so it will certainly be improved as soon as I'm finished with school.
