zBrush rotation

Does anyone feel like the zbrush rotation is really weird? I just started learning zbrush the other day and it seems like the rotation is the only thing that is really bugging me. I tried the rotation settings on the right but nothing seems to make it much better.

Any suggestions? Or is this just something that I have to get used to?

Deformation or Tool rotate? If it's the prior, Where is the pivot of your mesh located? I recall that plays a part in on how the deformation is applied.

While the Tool rotate (EI: long yellow line you create to do manual rotation on the mesh), it's pretty simple, just line it.

I don't think either. Its when you outside of the tool and drag. It doesn't feel at all like max or maya.

Have you tried switching the local axis of rotation off? If it still feels weird try messing with the pivot I guess.

I found the rotation to be "weird" for quite a while... I did get used to it. There are times when the pivot is messed up, but you're probably just getting used to it.

Well I figured out what the issue is. So in maya or max when you move the mouse up and down while rotating... it is like grabbing the screen and pulling it down. Kinda like the scrolling on an iphone. In zbrush when you rotate up and down... it rotates the screen in a circle....

I started using Zbrush a very long while ago and to me the rotation is still weird. They say its easier to use with a Tablet or over time you just get use to it.

I on the other hand will be using Mudbox when i get a new System. As Godly/epic as Zbrush is i hate that camera control scheme in any application with a passion its a top reason why i never bothered with blender too.

You could try Zswitcher, it gives you the Alt + Mouse for the camera controls but alters the Normal Zbrush hotkeys. it dont change the way the rotation is though

I was told that your not actually moving a camera your rotating the model itself in all Axis at the same time

i dont know, i find it very easy, it took me a while to get used to it, but I don't bother about that anymore. At start I did, of course, but now it's ok. I only use tablet tho, for everything.

Yeah so I did more messing around and I guess it has to do with where your curser is relative to where you started the drag. Either way I haven't really found a fix... so I guess I will just have to get used to it.

What floor axis, x, y, or z, is the actual floor?

i olny use zbrush with a tablet, and it works fine for me, olny issues is once and a while the pivit gets messed up but if i just use shift drag to snap to a view it fixs that issue.

Thats how its suppose to be, the default...And theres no way to change it

Make sure Local and Rotate on All Axis are turned on, and it should be normal behavior as far as rotating goes. Clicking on the mesh sets the pivot point.

Setting it to Rotate on Y makes it behave enough like traditional 3d programs for me.

a good way to move around is using rightclick, and dragging around. where you click on your mesh becomes your pivot-point, so it becomes a bit easier

also for the latest reply: on the right side there is a button with ZXY, under that is a button where when you hover over it, it says "rotate on Y-axis", click that, and it should be a bit more like Maya

They should add something like, rotate around object.

PS do you guys mean by clicking on object, right click>do action
