Topology tutorials

Guys hello:D

I need a tutorials for a topology in XSI and/or 3D studio Max.
I am a little bit confused from topology and how/why do i need this:)

I need some good tutorials where at least i can understand this

Topology... Well, deformation and lighting seems to be the main purpose for good topology. Deformation for sculpting so that you can get details and topology so that shit bend properly. And I say that you could probably take any tutorial on modelling and learn something about topology, don't really see how topology is limited to any software package. Try skinning and animating a character and you'll feel the importance of good topology, my five cents.
