What do you use for Uv Unwrapping?

Ive been using Uvlayout since the first beta. . .5 years ago? ive been using ever since+Modo. Ive been using these same tools for the longest time that i dont look into any new uv-unwrapping tools that could possibly be out there. I was curious what most users are using for unwrapping. Be neat if there was somehow something better than uvlayout. just curious.

In the same situation. I use uvlayout with max, its the best tool I've found for UV editing.

dude, stick with uvlayout, since ur using it there's NOTHING better than that.
For simple tasks I use Maya. But UVlayout is the best.

Not to hijack this thread, but why exactly is UVLayout the best? Aren't some clean cuts, some good relax runs and normalized pack good enough?

Uvlayout makes it possible to do that stuff 10 times faster. add to that some great tools for copying and pasting uv's between islands, stacking tools, packing tools, local scaling.. its just awesome.

Headus UVLayout was the reason why I became so much interested into UV mapping and why I started TexTools. I used it for everything in the past and I agree, hands down to UVlayout it is the BEST UV tool out there- its just so damn pricey.

Since I don't have a license or copy around these days anymore (used it as well back from the early beta days) I stick fully to 3dsMax and TexTools which are good enough for my needs these days. Only with super high poly unwrapping there is no other way as max crashes with that or simply takes hours to relax things or just handle things whereas UVlayout makes it feel like butter.

In TexTools obviously I have a few things to my own flavor that I use a lot like aligning shells, sorting them in a row with 1 click (unlike UVlayout which requires tedious pin marking), render UV template to clipboard and some nice debug texture baking things like mesh element ID's.
Also for low poly modeling TexTools has some pixel snapping and more pixel orientated units that make it easier to focus on texture space in pixel units.

UVlayout is next to Silo one of those nitty apps that inspired me a lot regarding workflow, UI shortcuts and interaction design- love the app and the productivity it can boost.

RenderHJS: Id check the latest betas aligning and sorting are much improved, cyliners and basic box like stuff is pretty much a 1 click op.

If you guys haven't tried it yet I've been doing most of my unwrapping in 3DCoat lately with minimal fixes in Maya. Not quite sure how well it works on hard surface stuff but for organic stuff I love it. I imported a mesh from uvlayout with unwrapped UVs and as soon as I unwrapped it with 3DCoat with the same seams I got a better unwrap. I still pack my UVs by hand though, and it's unfortunate that 3DCoat doesn't offer an option for padding around UV islands.

Roadkill. With minimal fixes in Maya. (aka Blender)

I hate having to do it in Max, but I heard the new Max has awesomesauce UV tools (compared to the fugsauce it was before).

In lack of money I just use Blender, I've heard great things about UVlayout but I think Blender's UV tools are pretty good, you just gotta have some basic unwrapping knowledge and you'll be able to produce good UV layouts quick and easy.

The UV tools in Max 2012 are essentially TexTools on steriods, but there are still things which don't work.

Such as the Normalized packing, Align and and Peel...honestly, if you have Max just use TexTools in 2011, 2012 breaks certain things.

can't help but notice lots of Max people here (although I love Max myself). I guess it's just the fact that I've been using Maya so much as of late that I will chime in on Maya UV tools I use and that would be the sdv_xformUV script which does plenty of the things I need to do with UV islands or arranging things and such.

I love Maya's uv tools already as it is. Just wish there was a Textools type of uv tool for it

I use Maya default with a dab of some custom scripts (TransUV, my own UV slot mover, and XFormUV) found on the net and UVAuto Ratio Pro for sizing.

Maya's defaults are pretty good, just buried (like everything else).

MODO is pretty much everything i need for uv'ing.I have never had a problem with it.Simple and fast,like modeling features in MODO.

I use Maya default tools with sdv_xformuv. I only have two complaints with Maya's native tools the unfold/smooth uv's create shoe horns much worse roadkill, and there is still not an out of the box solution for unifying uv shells from source to target based on existing uv shell size. I end up unifying all the shells to a hard coded size and then go from there.

In maya I use Roadkill, shame it's not being actively developed anymore. It's straighten-unwrap is fantastic for easy to manage UV's.
