Enviroment WIP thread

Hello
Im Currently working on an enviroment, the plan is to make some sort of sci-fi/industrial thingy. and id like to get some feedback and critts to help me make it better than ive done before. so hit me

Ive worked up a rough sketch of the level(might add more rooms if time allows)
and started on a door and some tubes of nasty stuff.

the plan is to import it into UDK once ive got a proper foundation that im somewhat happy with.

Hi, the "sketch" is the rough block out that ive got there, it might not be so much of a sketch but it might give an idea on where i want to go with it.

yeah, im guessing itll land around 60-80k tris in the end. well see. its an enviroment that ill pop into udk once i have like 80% of the stuff.

what do you think of it so far? any tipps/hints or critts?

I like it a lot... and its busy. I would just say a little more detail on your textures where its a hard edge... so it doesn't seem as chopped. How close do you think you will get to see the props? Just.. over all your scene from afar looks neat and with lots of detail.. but if you get close you see hard edges that are not hidden by your textures... thats all i would say for now. I like it tho. I want to see how it looks with more work on it.

Your assets are looking good! I see you like adding scratches around the edges of your props, these scratches are to add character, but I noticed in particularly on the floor tile that yours are looking very systematic, which kind of defeats the purpose. Almost like you could have run a filter over your normal map to produce those scratches. I'd add some a bit more around the place and have some of your edge scratches bleed in a little, and maybe reduce the amount of scratches you have along the edges at the moment, less is more! Best of luck!

Your assets are coming along good, i would also agree your lighting is hurting you right now. Once your meshes are all done go back and give some focus with lighting were you want us to look. Maybe push the amount of light coming from your glowing bits right now but a dominate light source is what you really need. I like were its going, keep up the good work.

i think it could use abit more colour.. add so more orange in.. your lighting needs alittle work but i dont think u have focused on it yet.. i think if u put some style into how u set up your lighting it could look really good

Thank you. i am trying to get a good lightsource atm, just not used to UDK

Quick question, does anyone know why the shadows on the floor (which are comming from the bars) arent being baked?

u may need to incress the light map res for bsp's default is 32.. but the lower the number the high res the map is try 4 if u still dont like it try 1. that could fix your issue this will incress the baking time

its coming along nicely. when u added those more lights did u tune down your spots? it depends on how heavy u want your bake to be is how far u want to go. show us a screen of just lighting
