Nice, I didnt participate in the survey myself, but I am one of the people who would love it if max worked on OSX. I am forced to use Maya now and I'd switch to max in an instant if it was possible :P
Interesting that this is mentioned right after Autodesk announced the OS X version of a certain other fairly popular piece of design software (which looks awesome I might add, a lovely interface update to software that badly needed an interface update)z
You can add me to your list of would be switchers. 3DS Max needs to be on the Mac. The list of Windows only apps in my workflow is slowly getting smaller. What with CrazyBump now in Mac beta, and even UDK dipping it's toes in Apple flavoured water, it makes sense that Max makes the jump too.
I absolutely hated maya on osx, I wouldn't want money wasted to port over 3ds, too.
For what reasons? And which version did you try?
Admittedly, anything pre-2011 was pretty terrible in comparison with the Windows version but I've used the latest release for some time now and it's fine.
Maybe I'm just getting optimistic but it wouldn't surprise me if we saw Max for Mac before the year is out, or at Siggraph next year.
AutoCAD just got brought back to the Mac after a very long time, Maya is already there (although it was likely just 'still there' from back in the Alias days, it only feels like they've really supported it since 2011), as is Mudbox and Sketchbook Pro. Since most Architects and Arch-Viz artists I know use an AutoCAD / Max pipeline, it seems natural for AD to release an OS X version.
Also, the number of Architect Studios using Macs has increased massively over the last couple of years. In fact more Architect studios I've been to this year have been running an 'all Mac' setup than Windows. Granted, they may be running BootCamp but there's definitely a market there.
For games, I suppose it might not be as ideal for game work, I don't know much about this tech side but OS X uses OpenGL right? So we wouldn't see DX based realtime shaders.
For Arch-Viz though Max is still far and away the best software, and I would think that would be the reason for a
Mac version rather than games.
Yeah, it was maya 2008, and it was hell at times, glitches and bugs are often unique to osx, and with the smaller user base, you had to search harder for solutions. Memory leaks and other huge problems would slow the computer to a halt and require a restart, some cool plugins/addons wouldnt work.
