H'ok, bit of a late start.

I'll be doing a scrapyard sniper. Homemade weapons constructed from scrap metal and junk.

Planning on a bow, machete and trucker hat for now. My thinking is it'll match well with the snipers junky RV look.

Anyone know if there's a link laying around with the weapons and textures already extracted? I saw one for the characters themselves...

Ive already spent more time digging around the steam directory than i have on the art :P

I was digging around trying to find the models too, no luck. Follow the steps on there and you can get them yourself easily.

haha yeah i was just hoping to get it the easy way

finally bit the bullet and got 'em out the hard way :P

Here's an update on the bow, just a bit more modeling to do, then ill add in some irregularities.

I kind of dig it. It's a nice change of pace from all the similarly shaped wooden bow submissions.

thanks guys. I should probably mention these are just max materials to get an idea of what itll look like, no textures yet. And the string is just a place holder from the huntsman for now.

You're doing rather well already...

You mention the Huntsman string is a placeholder, I guess that means you have plans to make it the real one not look like the string will fly off the top everytime the bow is fired?

The bow is great, but I'm not sure about having another machete/basic hat shape in the contest. Lots of basic baseball caps are in it, a trucker hat isn't too far off. maybe if it had a really great graphic on the front. And machete just sounds kind of boring to be honest, but maybe if you make it really scrappy and dangerous looking it'll grab interest.

edit- Maybe have the bow string somehow tied to the valve so it implies he turns the valve to tighten the string? I know that's not realistic, but just a cool idea.

I second Khthon's idea about the string tied to the valve(nice touch too, that'll earn you brownie points for including that)

thanks for the comments and suggestions guys. I actually thought about having the string tied to the valve as a tightening mechanism, but decided against it as it doesnt really make sense (the pressure of the string would just unwind the valve) and wouldnt read as well visually and probably take a bit more polys to work out nicely.

Here's a bit of an update, moving SLOWLY, maybe ill finish... :P
Just about done with modeling, wanna add in a grip and some irregularities still. Just a hair over the tri budget but nothing that isnt warranted.

Maybe instead of having the bungee chord wrapped around the string, you could put the bungee chord in place of the string and have each end hooked onto the red valves.

That seems like a pretty good idea. A bungee cord string would definately fit into your theme, maybe with this sort of nylon texture.

For some reason i dont like the black string. It just doesnt look right, however i love the idea, everything is shaped nicely & stuff, keep up!

Yeah I'm not digging the bungee cord. It seems like an element of black texture would go well somewhere (maybe the tips?) but not like that.

I think the Bungie cord looks good, it certainly makes sense to me. It looks like it would make the arrow faster.

I think its all right, you could do with or without, whichever makes you, (and everybody else) happier.

For you machete, how about something like this:
