New xbox is pretty nice though. I need one with all the new fancy gizmos in it. I have the first edition, first draft-one. I imagine it has gears and is run on steam.
New gears environments looked really nice, too much kinect though, Im actually dreading sonys conference now hopefully they concentrate on games and not becoming the new facebook like xbox wants to be.
metal gear rising looked great! so going to buy that game! and the guys in the audience getting a new xbox, damn! but yeah, after the intro games, not really impressed with what they where showing. hopefully EA's and ubisoft's press conferences are a bit cooler later today
I hope so, and I am usually a 360 fanboi. But they need their asses kicked into shape. Hopefully new ps3 slim or something or a massive price cut :P
Well, they're gonna push the Move really heavily. But they seem to be really focusing in on hardcore games using it unlike microsoft which is focusing on the casual market, which gives me hope for a kickass shooter.
yeah the kinect stuff is blatantly for the casual market, i think only little kids will enjoy it. unless eventually they make a decent hardcore game out of it somehow, but highly unlikely
Well I found it interesting and liked most of it. Microsoft seems to have gotten marketing done proper, the games shown with kinect and the demonstrations were (although horribly cheesy acting wise) informative enough to make me interested in the entire thing. Reach, Gears, Rising, Fable etc looked pretty damn cool. Especially Gears and Halo looked fun. All the extra stuff for xbox live such as ESPN isn't of much use to me but it's cool to see Microsoft bringing so much to their platform.
Overall I was very impressed, and ending it with the new and hot looking xbox did it for me. It's specs and price means I'll get an xbox again I don't regret selling my ps3 now.
Next press conference is EA for me, then possibly Sony, don't know if I'll bother with Nintendo, seeing how Sony and Microsoft have already trumped them in everything now.
Always been a PC gamer at heart, but, man. The community is just starting to piss me off :P Everyone is a videogame expert. Sometimes I just want to play a game with someone who goes "hey that was an awesome thing happening in the game" instead of a jaded analysis of the same thing. I found the former more often when I played console games.
Anyway, EA is up in 1 hour and 30 minutes, Valve also comes then mayhaps?

they actually had a separate conference then cancelled it
I find the 360-slim announcement interesting. I can't help but recall the famed "Saturn Incident." Retailers across North America are going to be PISSED at Microsoft. Most of them are going to be left holding 360 hardware that they will have to discount heavily to get rid of. It is at least good that they made this announcement at this time of year. If this had come just before the holidays the damage would have been even worse. I'm thinking this is going to backfire a litte for Microsoft.
I'm okay with the Kinect and its line-up. It's obviously very casual-focused, but that's just their attempt to get some of that sweet Wii-cash. There's no telling at this point if it will actually work or not. I was especially impressed with the ESPN integration they have planned. That's actually a good way to get a lot of "core" 360 owners interested. I know a lot of sports nuts who only own a 360.
Knect (dumbest name ever) looks like its just the Wii without a controler.
The Move is just a better Wii mote.
Fail to both IMO. Then again I havent seen what Sony has to show for the Move yet but I bet it will be about the same as Microsoft. Casual games/Wii ports with better graphics.
Nothing really exciting or new this year at all. Beyond the console redesign which seems odd to me. With the whole Knect push of casual/family friendly they are ditching the soft curved look of the old Xbox for a more angled agressive look? Very odd choice IMO.
Was cool when the whole studio gathered around 1 TV in the office to watch our game getting showed off
I like the gloss black (fits with the rest of my equipment :P), the whisper quiet and the built in wireless but yer I think it looks a touch odd for some reason.
The new 360 is looking a bit too angular and less curved/sleek than the current 360. What it looks like really doesn't matter though if the new features are good. Hopefully the built in Wi-Fi is better than the crappy $100 peripheral and the whisper quiet better not mean it's going to overheat every hour. I don't really care about the giant HDD though as I've had my 20 gig for about 3 years and have never come close to filling it. I guess it'd be useful to those who download netflix movies and tons of DLC/Demos.
come on now, they spent a lot of time on kinect, doesnt mean we have to in here, you guys are just as boring In all seriousness - that 2 person tubing game looks fucking fun!!!! wasnt soo excited about the platform dodging one, but if there are more games like the tubing one, that' rule. I thought the exercise stuff looked great, tahts really exciting stuff.

Never cared much for handhelds as I'm not a traveler and I'm one of those who think every Zelda game is the same one with new visuals :P
Don't think I've ever turned on my DS or PSP on the bus etc...always use indoors, my ass on the couch, with a load of mates.
Also, part of the appeal of the Zelda series is how it takes the old gameplay/story landmarks and spins it... The Gears generation just don't get that. (HATED twilight princess though).
Really? I'm playing through Twilight Princess for the first time (gamecube version) right now. Its got some problems, but overall Im enjoying it. Hated Wind Waker and didnt really enjoy Oot much either (never played MM or the DS ones). Link to the Past on snes was amazing back in the day though, and I think its actually aged very well.
I'm not to eager to play it (simpy because I had played too many FPS's in the past few months) but damn. They had to use some forbidden voodoo magic to pull it off on a 360.

Not a Gears gen guy. A link to the past is among my best gaming experiences, behind Ocarina of Time. Just feel it's time Nintendo actually did something new :P
I also fear the new Zelda will have a "Oh are you having trouble with the game? here, this is how you should play it *start game mastrubation*".
But who knows, I might watch it anyway, not loosing anything by doing so.
Metal Gear rising is make me hard
just this past friday my friend and I were discussing it, and I said "What if, like, in the new metal gear game, you could like... cut through ANYTHING?"
and..
and..
You can.
The conference focused heavily on the Kinect because it's NEW HARDWARE - that's not exactly a surprise. Only the small casual games are going to require it's use - nothing hardcore. If you don't like it, don't use it, it's not rocket science.
Playing with the units at work, I've found it's very much like a Wii - fun with friends. Would I sit there playing it by myself, waving my arms around? No, of course not. The fitness programs certainly look entertaining and I would use them, but I definitely see Kinect as a party system.
And hey, I thought our work on Forza was the best damn Kinect demo shown!

That car at the end, Jesus. The heck is the polycount for that thing? just insane!
I'm not really much of a car person, but, that I'm actually interesting.
Also on the Kinect, can you say anything about how many frames of your movement it captures and how quickly it does this? Seemed to be about a second of lag or so on the press conference.

overall a good start for this years E3.
Hardcore gamers return to the PC? :P
My thoughts exactly, err minus the "domed"
Anyway, EA is up in 1 hour and 30 minutes, Valve also comes then mayhaps?
Some of us never left...

make it so.
METAL GEAR: RISING OMGGGGGGG looks hot!
The new 360 looks overdesigned, but its the gubbins inside that matter; and they are awesome. Integrated wifi finally!!!
Also, i don't think they focused on kinect or casual games enough, definately need more of that.
/sarcasm

That random thought has me thinking about a game where you make game art by kicking the sh*t out of people.

Will you guys ever fix the tailight shader / coloured transparency on these car models? It bugs me as a fellow car modeller.
