Here's my attempt at a modeling and texturing a Scifi interior. My first Scifi project.

Props to Natural Selection 2's Concept Artist Cory Strader for letting me use his work for this project. If anyone is interested his work. His website is http://cstrader.blogspot.com/. He's got some great Scifi concepts up there.

Here's my modular breakdown so far.

Digging the pre-production here. I can't tell you much on what you're doing now other than that, but seriously this probably saved me a shit ton of time considering I never even thought to model in that process. Proooooops

Looks like you could cut 16 in half and use that for 15, 16 & 17. (screen left of 16 looks like 15 and screen right looks like 17.

Here are some updates! Finally! Working on the wall and floor modulars right now in Zbrush 4. Thanks god for Shadowbox. One of the best things that ever happen to Zbrush in my view.

Looking great so far! Just wondering, what is the reason for keeping it at Unreal 3? Are you trying to show you can work past limitations? If so then go for it. Otherwise, it would be better to stick with the latest and greatest as it will show off your ability to work with the most recent software. Keep up the good work!

I had to use UE3 editor because back then I didn't have a powerful enough computer. And it wasn't mine. But now i'm flyin with a 8gig 64bit windows 7 beast. So UDK is loaded up and ready to go!

I'm stuck. This bake came out okay but the bottom has a lot of artifacts under it. I want to bevel that part out so it will bake better. But the problem is i'll have to bevel the hard edges that don't need beveling at all. So should I separate the whole mesh into two parts with one beveled and the other one with no bevel?

Make sure your bottom part isn't the same smoothing group AND detached from the rest in the UV. That might help. Though it does more look like there is a overlapping problem with your UV, but I guess you have already checked that? If not, make sure, if you have overlapping UVs, move it +-1 field away when you bake.

Too late. I blocked everything out after I made the props!! Lesson learned however. A question though. After I block out the shapes I need in UDK how do retain or follow those shapes if I were too work in ZBrush 4 using the shadowbox method? I'm still a little wet behind the ears on placeholders in UDK.

Wow awesome concept as well , reminds me of the Crysis aliens a bit , with those floaters , Anyway I always asked myself when you make an interior , you make one single block of the room or it is a splitted thing into small pieces each perfectly matching edges?

Been a while but here's my latest update.

First pic is the High Poly. The Second Pic is the low poly. The final one is a paintover of the low poly.

Still banging out the final textures for this Scifi chamber model. Trying not to over do it and be subtle with the placement of the textures. Not everything has to be dirty.

Finished texturin the lower chamber. It's still a bit rusty here in there but i'm calling it done. This was rendered in the Marmoset engine.

lol Yeah I'll admit I've been off and on this due to trial and error issues among other things but it's coming along smoothly now. So do expect frequent updates!

More updates. Got the vegetaion and other minor stuff done. Soon I will be scuplting the monster in the center of the room. As of now i am trying to get a reflection/cubemap node in my Master material. Hopefully I will find a soultion soon.

This looks good! Hard surface and that weird creature thingy looks cool. Somewhat reminds me of Halo and the flood. Keep going, cant wait to see finished!

nice work, look awesome!
the only thing that bothers me is that the repetition around the room is way to clear!
you should add some more variation.
Like in the concept one of the glass capsule thingies is broken.
Things like that, and put some decals of dirt or rust around the place,
or maybe puddles of slime of the alien fishies?
Your modeling work is great, but i miss a story! a good game environment is all about the environmental storytelling that's in it!
Now the alien is just hanging there and you don't really know why. But when you see that a glass capsule is broken and a fish is chewing on the plants inside you go like, aha! they're here bc there is food/live here!

Now you show that you're an excellent 3d artist. If you add a story you show that you're an awesome environment artist!
