Polycruncher or similar?

Does anyone know of any free apps that function like polycruncher for max 2010? If you're unfamiliar with the app, its basically a plugin that converts a really high poly to a low poly, and does a pretty good job of it. Basically a much better version of the optimize modifier.

I haven't used Meshlab, but my understanding is that it was built as an open-source polycruncher designed specifically for getting more manageable meshes out of high-rez sculpt/scan/etc data.

Blender 2.5 also has a decimate modifier.

I could never get Meshlab to preserve UV coordinates, and not sure if Blender does, as I haven't used it much yet in Blender.

Mesh lab was the one I was thinking of but couldn't remember it. Thanks, I'm going to check it out. I'm interested in hearing of others also if they exist.

mesh lab is amazing -- it is fast and pretty stable.

filters-->quadratic edge collapse decimation is the function you are looking for.

Polycruncher is now included in Max as ProOptimizer.

If you are working in Zbrush they also have the Decimation Master Plug in, its pure ace. No high poly Exporting involved, just prep the model and you can change Resolution on it with a slider. its so awesome...

works like a charm

whoever hasn't noticed pro Optimizer yet.. do give it a try, you'll be pleasantly surprised

Respects and protects so many parameters, like smoothing groups, UV seams.. and so many more.. and does such a wonderful job!
