I didnt have a lot of time to look at it and Im not sure I understand what they are doing. Why do they bother recording her face in 3d if they could just film her with a camera? Surely a real leap in technology would be to have virtual characters who dont exist looking real on camera? unless the idea is to take her real face and composit it onto virtual characters...which is kinda alright but doesnt really excite me.
This stuff is about 1-1.5 years old as I recall... And reproducing someone's exact likeness isn't entirely useless, for example most EA sports games use Debevec's methods for football players, boxers etc.
Movie VFX can use the data for digital doubles, and even for reference to some kind of alter egos - for example with Avatar, all the actors were captured like this, to create facial expression studies and textures and so on.
