The trailer for the Guardians of Ga'hool film that Animal Logic have been working on has been released and seems to be making all the film guys of facebook terribly excited. Thought I'd pass it on so you can be terribly excited too.

i saw couple shots from this move at last years fmx and have been waiting for the movie ever since. tho i was hoping it would have a more serious feel with a couple combat scenes.

i did work experience with them during last year or so (just for a week but) and i got to see some of the models and animations and concept art. but they made me sign a NDA so i'm not sure what i can say. hundreds of pictures of owl's basically

I will DRAG troy to the theatres to watch this. Looks awesome!

I think I've seen this movie/read this book/played this game a few times already.

Just this one has owls as the gimmick.

A fantasy epic based around owls directed by Zack Snyder? WTF? How does this nonsense get greenlit? The owls look pretty and all, but surely this thing is going to bomb. They should've kept 'Ga'hool' in the title too. That's my favourite part.

On an unrelated note, does anybody want to option my screenplay about a band of plucky shrews in an alternate medieval England? They go an a journey and learn some lessons about life. Apparently McG is interested in directing it.

i think, very fitting and refreshing compared to the same orchestrall stuff that always sounds so generic.

Nick Carver: It's because of Happy Feet. Which was cute. I'm betting the conversation went like: "What bird can we do next? Ostriches? Eagles? Galliformes?"

Does anybody else find their Australian accents horrendously distracting? I know Barn Owls do live in Australia... among other places (and so does Animal Logic)... but it's just kind of jarring. Honestly I'm not quite sure why American or British accents wouldn't be jarring, but for some reason they just wouldn't. Why get Hugo Weaving to put on an English accent at the beginning if everybody's just going to be Australian anyway? So many questions!!?

I'll probably see it if it reviews well anyway.

I was immediately turned off when the text "from the creators of Happy Feet" popped up. Happy Feet SUCKED. They went way too hard on realism and ended up making the penguins look like stiff uninteresting characters. If you make an animal character that can TALK, you damn well better make it have good facial expressions to demonstrate emotion, Happy Feet did not and it bugged the fuck out of me, I got half way thru and didn't care to watch anymore. And from this trailer it looks like more of the same, they upped the expressions a bit, but still looks weak. The story looks pretty weak as well and the trailer was little more than shots of owls flying, or owls talking. Music was not my cup o tea either.

My ticket money for a CG fantasy epic is going to How to Train Your Dragon coming out later this month, that looks a ton more engaging on every level.

Actually, I've changed my mind. If this film is successful and it leads to hundreds of nerds dressing up as owls at conventions then it will be worth it.

Tully: I'd tried to erase Happy Feet from my memory. Particularly the last 20 minutes with its 'I don't wanna live in a world without penguins!' craziness. As for the accents, most people associate fantasy epic with plummy, thespian Brits. The aussie accent (apologies to my antipodean bredren) doesn't quite have the same gravitas for some reason.

I think some of the aussie accents are a bit forced, I dont know anyone who speaks like that. Hopefully we get to see the blacksmith owl who makes all their armour.

I will say.. the scene when that owl was flying through the rain and his feathers were getting when with every rain drop exploding on his was pretty bad ass. I'm intrigued, and wish to learn more.

I would kill for a bad ass Redwall movie, or even Redwall video game. I was a monster fan of the books as a kid.

I know. I fucking loved Redwall when I was a kid, I read damn near every book up until Taggerung, that was the most recent one I read. I always loved the weasels/fishers in the books, they were my favorite race along with otters. And yes, I remember wishing for a Redwall video game, or movie, or anything other than a crap cartoon.

#1 rule of fantasy movies : If some characters have an apostrophe in their name, then the movie will suck.
