I was never able to own a dreamcast when it came out, but i recently acquired one off my boss, but the only game he had was tony hawk 2 (which is awesome!) anyone know what games i should get?
Star Wars:Jedi Power Battles(or smth like that) was a lot of fun in cooperative!
crazy taxi was also fun with a buddy. But not in split screen, more in a hot seat mode)
MDK 2 was insaneubercool
I hope i get one someday so I can play Shenmue.)
Ah Alien Front! That game was awesome, but pretty useless without the online servers.
People are still actually playing Phantasy Star Online on Dreamcast using custom hacked servers. You can find a lot of Sonic characters running around in those servers.
There's this one game I used to always play (I was a kid then) calls ____ ____ Decathlon. I can't remember the first two words in the name... It was some silly little racing game where you were this little creatures sliding on your bellies on ice in these strange gumdrop/candy winter environments. There was also a hat system similar to TF2's. Not sure any of you would have played it as it was a kids game but I remember it being pretty fun...
I'll second Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis and Soul Calibur. I know I enjoyed many, many more games on there but those were the first to come to mind. Dreamcast was a phenomenal system, think I might try to drag mine out and give it a go again.
For hard to find ones, I heard that loading roms is very easy on the DC, just a matter of finding a boot CD iirc. Nothing beats finding an original disc tho...
JetSetRadio and Rez for sure
Third strike is very accurate on DC too from what I've heard
Hope you will find a component cable. I have them for PS2 and GameCube and it really helps making games stand up to the test of time.
Pior: No component cables were ever released for the DC unfortunatly, the only way you could get component is to buy a vga box and then use a component transcoder to convert the signal. Also, you don't need an old boot disc for that stuff, the homebrew/pirate community figured out how to make everything self boot on DC a long time ago. I'd recommend against using ripped copies though sense DC games ran on gd-roms which were essentially cds that held 1gb, so copies are often compressed and sometimes have stuff removed to accomodate the smaller size of burnable discs.
Anyhow, games:
Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia
Rez
Crazy Taxi (both)
Power Stone (both)
Ooga Booga (Almost no one played this seems like, but I had a blast with it)
MDK2
Jet Grind Radio
Ikaruga
Sonic Adventure 2 (Gamecube version is good too, but they screwed up the chao garden and the visuals arnt as crisp as on DC)
Also, I'd heavily recomend NesterDC if your into old school NES titles, as its the best nes emu ever made (from a compatibility standpoint), completly destroying every nes emu on the PC.
I'm still hoping they re-release classic DC games on Live... How awesome would it be going through some of these classics in 1080p 60FPS with chevos...
A question for the pros. Anyone knows for what can I use my VMU? I remember to search in the past for some app or little game to run it unplugged of DC, but without luck. Love to carry it with my keys.
The biggest problem with the Dreamcast was the controller. The DC controller was not a very good controller. The ergonomics were poor, and the face buttons weren't very comfortable. Here's the secret formula for enjoying your dreamcast...
Dreamcast + Arcade Stick + VGA Box = Kick-Ass
A lot of the titles on the Dreamcast were ports of arcade games, or at least inspired by arcade games. And most of them work REALLY well with an arcade stick. Soul Calibur, Power Stone 1 & 2, and Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 are all fantastic to play with an arcade stick. The VGA box is a must-have for Dreamcast fans. It provides brighter colors and nice crisp graphics. It really helps a lot of the Dreamcast's titles to shine. It will also throw the system's lack of anti-aliasing into sharp relief, but it is a small price to pay for the extra detail.
The Dreamcast was ahead of its time, and left us too quickly. I never gave up my original DC, and still have all my games for it on the shelf.
Grandia 2
Skies of Arcadia
Rez
Crazy Taxi (both)
Power Stone (both)
Ooga Booga (Almost no one played this seems like, but I had a blast with it)
MDK2

Ikaruga

.
God dammit Ikaruga is one of my favorite games of all time. And Sonic Adventure 1 was an absolutely brilliant 3d Sonic game..that and my friend did the voice of Tails.
How is the Dreamcast homebrew community ? Wouldnt it be a fantastic system to spec games for ? (and then release through regular channels). Or just for the coolness of making a DC game. HMMMMMMMMMM

Dude! I was thinking about this at work i also second the HMMMMMMMM
The DC community has been busy it seems sense last I checked (years ago). They have been porting alot of half-life mods to DC recently, including Counter Strike, Black Ops, Pandora, and They Hunger. Been a few original ones recently too:
Elysian Shadows
Plus some open-world type 3d game which is in the works (cant find any screens for it, but gues some people in the community are looking forward to it based on what info has been released). It's called TAHI: The Arocean War (http://www.reticonentertainment.org/)
Then these guys have been working on an engine for a while to make an an old fashoned 2d jrpg called Elysian Shadows, but they're all programmers and no artists (they're looking for sprite artists atm if anyones interested): http://elysianshadows.com/project/

Are you seriously asking what dreamcast is?
JetSetRadio and Rez for sure

Have fun!!
I want one too
Shenmue, too, if you've got hours and hours to spend on a game.
Quake 3's also pretty funny on Dreamcast. In an entirely shit way.

DC, apart from PS1 is probably the best console ever made.
Best evar! (even though you can get it on the ps2 also)

Haha, loved that game, loaded up my saves the other day and had 250+ hours, ouch so that's what I did as a kid...
