General crits welcome.

For the leg shieldings i was wondering how i could round the edges without using chamfer, i saw on swizzles pawn on the turrets there are some raised plates, the edges were nicely rounded. http://boards.polycount.net/showthread.php?t=68954

Hows is this achieved? was it possibly created from a beveled spline?

Well, swizzles model is a high-rez sub-d model, if thats what you are looking for, just extrude the edge row of polies and scale em up,

Need another helping hand, when creating models in general which you may possibly take into an engine, lets say the unreal engine. When creating the model is it bad practice to have parts which arent connected to the model?

heres an example of what I mean. The spike is not connected just placed slightly below the surface, is it bad to do this? should i end up haveing to split the poly underneath it to match the edge and vertex placements of the spike?

It's fine having meshes in multiples pieces. It's a good practice to help not increase polycount and just make things easier to manage. Unreal and most modern engines are fine with separate piece meshes. There are few engines that require water tight meshes, but probably not ones you will be using and if you are you will know.

thats good to know, its always been a blank area in my knowledge! I can now keep the hydraulics seperate now to make them fit nicely in place!

Quick update, the leg connections to the body will be connected with rubber hose's.

Still a WIP.
