I was excited about this a few years ago (like six?), then they got bought by Intel (right?), and released that new video - but have been so hush, that I've sort of given up excitement. Definitely looked badass those few years ago, however.
I think the last Project Offset thing I saw was Sam McGrath running a mile, which was the latest blog post I could findnothing to do with the project, alas! Checking the site, looks like they're hiring. Apply!
AFAIK there haven't been many videos about this recently, they push out new stuff every now and then but there's still no real sign of any game in there.
It seems like Intel maybe just bought them for the engine/tech demo, and hope to license it out. That's my guess anyway.
Khang Le's concepts for the project are amazing though, I love that stuff.
with the consumer larrabee on hold as well, I guess this also doesn't play exactly like they hoped
Yeah I think this was meant to be the Larrabee's "killer app" and reason for people to invest in the card. Not sure what will be happening to it now that the Larrabee is in Limbo.
Every time they release a new video I get all excited, and then the excitement slowly dies as it takes them a full year to release another 30 second video.
It's the same tease I go through with Blizzard every year.
Project Offset is like DNF, they tease us with short bursts then you see some buzz online and it goes away. Uncharted 2 has real-time destruction, plenty of other games has crowd systems and fancy particle effects.
I personally don't get the excitement, it doesn't look any better than most of todays games nor are they doing a good job of keeping interest. The editor does look fun to work with, but 'fun' editors these days are a dime-a-dozen.
I dunno, I don't quite get the hype behind this. Especially now that they don't come off as very 'independent' any more.
I think what everyone needs to remember is that these are tech demos and serve very well at showing off the tech.
The PO engine has some nice SSS fakes with transmission maps. Great destructable environments, character capsules (no clipping on the wood falling on the giant), particle effects, crowd simulators, and a sweet content creator with prefabs and decals etc. Not to mention they're doing physical animation in the game too (like Assassin's creed when you're running through crowds).
I'd say the graphics are pretty up to par with most games being released in the next year or two.
Yeah there can be improvements, but for a team that is around 40 people building the technology and game from the ground up I think it is pretty impressive.
But hey, that's just me and maybe I'm partial because my current WIP is concept art taken from their website lol.
When i was with Intel I had the good fortune to work with and create for Project Offset. Everybody at offset is doing some really cool stuff down there. I'll be excited for when they release their product, hopefully soon!

But yea, I've been following it since it started, but it's pretty boring to follow since they don't release anything to look at.

Well all we can do is hope and wait.

I want to see game footage, not tech demos

Nice motion blur on the spinning wheel.
Purty dynamic soft shadows.
I hope I never get my hands in this engine.
( I'd rather believe that Unicorns really do exist )
Graphics are not as important as gameplay, and we still have no idea how the game actually plays.
