Ha, was actually gonna just gonna post that this morning and got sidetracked. Looks great so far. I was kinda worried at first when I heard about it, but the story looks like it justifies having a third film. Really lookin forward to it.
Can't wait to see this when I get home. I have to say, I was a bit pissed about this earlier. I took my family to the Toy Story 1/2 re-release in 3D and they said we were suppose to get an exclusive look at that trailer, but they never played it. I hope the movie lives up to the others...
It's nice to see they haven't gone all out with the CG in the usual way they tend to these days, it's in perfect keeping with the visual style of the previous films which is certainly promising, it's also great to hear all those familiar voices again.
I'm hoping this film is going to live up to the other 2, not necessarily to better them, but atleast feel consistant as they were a big part of my movie childhood
Once this has been released, please, no more. It can only be appealing for so long. That said, the trailer looked awesome.
Yea but the little kids, thats where the money is at.
Toy Story 15 will be the benchmark of all sales, i know it.
HANG ON A SECOND.. You hear that whisper in the Air??? **Halo 4 biatch**

Toy Story Toy
Toy Story the beginning
Toy story story.
They have limitless power!
Its like the Gopher you keep shooting in the face with BB GUN but wont DIE!!!!!
After Incredibles I was done being skeptical of what they produce. Every time I fell into the same trap. "Oh they can't keep cranking out the great films, this is one has to suck".
I wouldn't say everything they've done has been great, but they are still always better than most crap out there. For instance, Cars or Up. I didn't dislike either of them, but they didn't leave me as entertained as many of Pixar's other greats.
That said, I think Toys Story 3 has some potential, based on that trailer. I was curious how many jokes they could make around those toys, and so far, it looks like they are still keeping the jokes fresh.
Looks great, I need to go back and watch the first two, it's been too long since I saw them. Kinda threw me for a loop how much the humans are less stylized than the usual humans you'd see in a Pixar movie, but understandable considering how they will contrast with the toys.
I loved it. I loved it all. Every minute of it. Towards the end, I even got a little emotional (JUST A LITTLE) as I thought about how I had seen the first one in theatres some 12 years ago and I know my younger self would love to hear about the fact I am still watching them. The movie was a fantastic progression, and at times I felt connected to that.
Andy being young with the toys when he first got them - me being young when I first saw the movie.
Andy growing up and moving on to new things, me having grown up since the last 2 movies and trying new things.
I love how they dealt with
Sid
being the
garbage man
. I felt like I was the only one in the theatre who picked up on that, and I was happy to think it.
Some points were pretty creepy when I think about it in retrospect.
Big Baby, the talking carphone moments and the clown's first appearance.
Pretty spooky, those moments.
The dumpster scene felt pretty real at times. I love that about the Toy Story movies; they always have a few choice shots that look REAL and not cartoon like.
And for the record, my Top 3 list goes (with all other Pixar movies falling equally thereafter):
oh yeah I agree with Adam! I loved every second of it! I was also saying to my friend that I really did not expect it to be as funny as it was too! I nearly had a big smile on my face the entire time, and to be honest I found toy story 3 to be much funnier than most 'pure comedies' that I've seen in recent years.
Just great great stuff. Oh yeah and Ken was hilarious too. Such a great character haha
Damn... Now I'm even more upset. I tried to take my family yesterday, for a matinee, but the theater had lost power in half the theaters, and they wouldn't sell tickets for any of the other movies, because they were afraid of losing power there too It was too late to make it for a matinee at a different theater, so I have to wait until next weekend. (I refuse to pay full price for a movie now, especially for 3D)
I loved it as well, I even teared up a bit at the end. A great ending to a great series. Anyways, here's more easter eggs for you guys. http://www.slashfilm.com/2010/06/18/toy-story-3-easter-eggs/
They aren't spoiler free, if you haven't seen the film, I'd stay away from them.
Enjoy!
^Awesome easter eggs. I actually was trying to keep my eyes peeled for them but then completely forgot. I loved the movie. Such a fitting end to the series. Appropriate on so many levels, with a lot of genuinely moving scenes.
Ken almost stole the show. I didn't pick up on the fact that it was Michael Keaton til I saw the credits.
Oh, and what about the new short, Day and Night? That was so freakin' inventive and imaginative I was watching it the whole time with a big grin.
Words can't describe how amazing this movie is. The story was perfect. There wasn't a single moment where I was anything less than glued to the screen.
Definitely their most mature story so far in terms of subject matter. Pixar are getting really good at crafting stories that appeal to all ages, and they are not afraid of showcasing "mature" topics that other animated films wouldn't touch. SUPER FUCKING SPOILER, YOU ARE WARNED:
In Up, it was Carl's backstory about his wife and the loss of their unborn child, Wall-E's heavy concepts of isolation and being alone. In Toy Story 3...when all the toys accept their fate and hold hands as they slowly descend into the incinerator. That was just intense - if you didn't shed at least a single tear during that sequence, I question your humanity.
Definitely their most mature story so far in terms of subject matter.
I dunno..I really thought that Up was their most mature story. It was basically about a man that was going on a trip to die. All the things that the house was a metaphor for, coupled with what Carl was heading there for I thought made it there most mature, subject matter wise. Toy Story 3 was definitely in that same vein though, ESPECIALLY the scene you referenced. That part was very well done and moving.
Yeah, not much to add here, but completely blew me away. The first one may be the single piece of media that got me most interested in CG, and it is amazing, but Pixar has grown so much that I think this was my favorite of the three. They're just untouchable. I want to give everyone hugs because of this movie.
I can't do much more than mirror the sentiments of you guys. I just got back from seeing it, and it was amazing. The fact that the movie was fantastic plus the nostalgia factor and attachment to the series just made it a perfect film experience. As Adam said, growing up alongside the series really added a lot of interesting perspective to it. The new characters fit right in and the plot was very well paced. I kind of feared from the trailer that I wouldn't like the Spanish Buzz but they really pulled it off, and it was funny. Great comedic and dramatic moments throughout it really was gripping. A great entry to the Toy Story series and it cements the series at the top of my favorite Pixar films (not that Toy Story wasn't already #1).
I can't even remember which movies I've seen in theaters so far this year... IronMan2 and Toy Story 3 I guess. This one definitely takes the cake as best of the year so far. I don't see anything dethroning it. Tron I expect to be good but no Toy Story, even with the Daft Punk soundtrack.
Another agreement on just how indescribably amazing this was. It was... it was Toy Story 3!! Just as I expected it to be, just as it should be. Growing up with it made it even that much more special. Oh, there were tears.
And I gotta say, sometimes it's just hilarious having kids in the audience. I was thinking how truly scary the monkey was, and behind me a hear a kid say to his mom, "I don't like the monkey, he's scary." Ah, kids
Am I the only person in the universe that didn't think this movie was THAT great?
The visuals were nice and I noticed the huge improvement from the earlier Toy Story movies (far improved on the lighting and camera work), but aside from that, I found it hard to get excited about the film the whole time I was watching it (3D IMAX).
I'm sorry, but I personally don't see what the hype is all about.
We went and saw it yesterday. It was great, hands down amazing.
We took our 3 year old daughter who has been knee deep in Toy Story for a few months now. We haven't picked up the DVD/BR so she's been kickin it super old school watching our VHS tapes. She loved 3 even if a lot of it flew over her head.
I thought it was a little too scary and loud at parts but she was only freaked out by the monkey, she hid her face. She lit up like a Christmas tree when woody went home with the little girl she loved those scenes.
My wife swears it was too sad to see again, but she'll come around. I'm a little sad they suffered so many casualties along the way, even though most of them never spoke in the first 2. I would rather they lose a few rather than try and juggle the ever growing cast.
The one thing that I thought was weird...
I didn't like potato head sticking his pieces in a tortilla, I had no idea what it was at first. It seemed sort of tacked on and out of place. He lumbers along through the high security play area un-spotted, after we get a big speech from the phone about stepped up patrols and more guards? And a tortilla just laying next to a sandbox? Really? Those things dry out really fast especially if its been sitting out all day...
Dude, I can't figure out how the fuck they keep making such amazing movies. I loved TS3. I definitely teared up a couple of times.
I don't know what was better,
Mr. Tortilla Head, the scary Monkey, or Flamenco Buzz.
Also Vig, It was clear in my mind that it wasn't as much of a problem being out in the open once the monkey had been taken care of. It's not that the patrols were likely to see you, it's that the all seeing monkey would spot you, and alert the patrols. Though, yes, tortillas dry out fast. That's why he ended up with a cucumber I guess?

Actually, it was because the pigeon started trying to eat him, and it caused him to split in half.
Still, it was one of my favorite scenes.
I loved how they ended it. Very classy, yet sad at the same time. If you've ever been attached to your toys as a child, you'll find it hard not to get choked a little at the end.
Finally saw it this weekend. Absolutely beautiful and tear jerking. Pixar does not just create animated movies, they create amazing worlds and characters through memorable stories that are universal to all age groups, skin color and demographic.
I'll go on record of saying that if you didn't cry for those toys you have no soul!
Tortilla scene definately had the whole audience cracking up. It was so ridiuclous AND well animated... that it was frickin' hilarious to see.
If you're gonna argue logisitcs of a tortilla's state of 'dryness', let me just remind everyone that these are walking, talking, LIVING toys... so... I think a suspension of disbelief is called for :P
I still think that monkey was insanely terrifying. Poor kids.
And seriously, the ending was so touching that, a few weeks after seeing it, I had a dream about watching Toy Story 3 again (but for the first time in the dream), and being completely touched all over again.
I can't remember the little girl's name, but dude, Pixar nailed it with her Striped shirt, overalls, pink tu-tu and yellow rain boots. Perfect 4 year old fashion sense.
I loved the little girl too. Her actions of shyness and dress really allowed you to feel attached to her like you would to a little cousin or sister. Movie was grand on so many levels.
2 things though.
I thought that the junkyard scene was a strangely paced, starting from them in the garbage truck and forward after.
I also thought that when Andy was driving away, that it felt odd of the toys to jump from looking off to the distance, to Woody introducing the other toys to the ones he made friends with, really fast. Its like they dont feel sad at all, but quickely forget about him. I mean, I would have been sad for a few moments at least, and then moved on~.

Bonnie, as I recall And I loved her from the first scene she showed up... I should have known how the movie would have gone because of that. I also really liked all her awesome toys, lol
It was really well done and funny, I enjoyed it.
It's been rationalized pretty well in this thread and it really didn't bother me all that much it just seemed kind of fishy and didn't seem to hold up to the normal bullet proofing they do with every scene. I think they could have taken it a few other directions and pulled off the same thing.

Maybe, once it's on video, we'll see other options they considered I would agree, that they probably could have found other items from outside, but I think the tortilla worked

It's why Lassiter sold his soul, after all (that's the only way I can explain Pixar's success).

There are a ton of references to the previous movies that you most likely won't understand if you haven't seen the first two.
If I find out you went to the theatre and saw 3 without seeing 1 or 2 first I will personally punch you in the dick/box.
The fact that he hasn't seen Toy Story warrants that already.

Also, Day & Night was positively brilliant.

Loved the movie. Fitting end to my favorite series ever.
