smoothing seam issues

Ok so I was redoing my comicon entry and I kept having this gaping huge seam in the model, at first I thought it was textures but it definitely is not, something to do with the mesh. textureless normalmapless in marmoset: 
The model itself is welded, everything is set to one smoothing group. I think its to do with the overlapping uvs and the connected area but I dont really know why its happening
