My first thoughts go to Mechwarrior and damaging mechs
Wozzat? Mechwarrior Online is using Cryengine 3?
The stars have aligned.
Yes please!
I think for this you need a stunt game. You build your own tracks, jumps, obstacles etc. and you can set up your own cameras. Then maybe have some sort of points system and social element where players post videos of their best stunts. Yesh.
yeah Im down for a burnout game on the Cryengine kthx
Ahhh, the first games were addictive enough! With this level of destruction on the cars I'd just be crashing all the time and fiddling with the hopefully in-depth replay editor. CRASH MONTAGE!!!
I've worked with some fairly complex vehicle systems for current-gen (console) games, and we've even done real time deformation, not to this level, but it really seems to me that the major issues with the technology come down to managing the collision volumes and eliminating interpenetration, which this does not solve at all, it seems - parts of the truck are clipping through other parts of the truck and the environment.
I'd be impressed if they had solid collision handling but just deforming a mesh, especially on a high end PC in a largely empty world with a single vehicle does not impress me at all.
If they have a fleet of vehicles doing this, and interacting with each other, with collision handling, then I'd be impressed.
This is a first pass it looks like. They say they are working on all of it yet, like clipping parts I would assume. Of course, getting all of that to collide properly between parts would probably be pretty expensive.
If you're racing at 200MPH and crash, u might not even care/notice some parts clipping a little. You will just be in awe that the car is destroying properly and doesn't just bounce off the wall like most games, or use pre-defined /pre-rigged geo.
I'm just saying, I don't think this is that unique-looking as a feature set - we've done more primitive real-time deformation in an open-world game on the 360, and the current Burnout does something similar, I believe. This doesn't seem "next-gen" to me.

I could grant you that wish with my foot if you like :P
Really nice reel. Very cool deformations. Want to see this in every game right now.

"Nothing is pre-defined, rigged, or animated"
