Hello ! So this is my first time posting on polycount forum, I'm doing this for a school project, i'd like to make a dried and rusty version of that picture in UDK. I have 13 Weeks I'd like to add some props of course probably a wrecked ship.
I need to agree with you, colors are over saturated. And by dry and rusty i think he means like post appocalyptical. Like no more water and more desertic.
Kind of hard to really critique on what you've got so far. Post again when you've got the major focal points of the scene in and it'll be easier to judge the scale and composition of everything. Only thing I'd say is to try and set up at least one camera that mirrors the way the shot is from the reference image, and you'll be better able to properly lay out the scene, even if you're changing it so drastically. Keep referring back to it as you work.

Did some blockout everything is still in progess I need some crits and comments.
Before you do too much work on the individual assets...you should take a step back and make a basic blockout of the scene.
