Multi range transparency mask.

OK so I originally posted this in the 'Pimping' thread, but I've mostly just got feedback on the art aspects. I suppose this is the better place for UDK tech questions.

So I have the following alpha channel in a file. I've also tried it as a separate file but that worked even worse:

I'm having difficulty figuring out how to do an effective transparency mask in UDK. It's either comes off as completely transparent in areas and other parts opaque, the whole thing translucent, or it is translucent in places where I don't want it to be.

This is what I currently have in UDK:

I've played around with various methods of using additional nodes like 'multiply', 'add', and vertex colors such as seen in some of the Unreal materials. I have never gotten it to what I can accomplish in max however. What I want is a semi transparent holographic screen hovering over a computer console. Could some share some insight?
