That is a very hard question to answer because there are a lot of tools out there that can do what you ask for. It also depends on what source engine you are going to export the models to. Typically you will find that the industry are keen towards Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya for games development, so often these tools have the 3rd plugins that are often required to export models to game engines properly. On the other hand, this is becoming less of an issue as the game engines mature.
Take a look at Blender -> www.blender.org which is free and can be used for everything.
Oh sweet thanks for the replies guys!! And chris, would I be able to see some of your work?
My portfolio is down right now because my hosting service deleted some essential files and have yet to fix it. Sorry! But in my signature I have the latest environment I created.
Yeah I took a look at that looks amazing, how long have u been modeling for?
Since Summer 09 I think so...almost 3 years (2 years and 8 months)
I was unemployed and taught myself for 1 year before I got a professional job doing it, been doing it since.
Try them all out. I have used Max and Maya for years, now I have to use XSI at work, and sometimes possibly Modo. So don't just pick one and say thats the end. I have also been using Silo on my laptop and quite enjoy that as well.
