Importing from Maya into Mudbox (Halp me Polycount Forum, you're my only hope!)

Mudbox is currently driving me up the wall and I was wondering if you knowledgeable people might have any answers :)

I've been working on a low poly model in Maya that I'm now trying to take into Mudbox to texture up more and then make a bump map and spec map before going on to rig it back in Maya.

Trouble is it looks quite different in Mudbox to how it does in Maya.

This is it in Maya:

I'm using a standard lambert shader for all UVs. There's an alpha channel on it to make the transparency on the planes where his whiskers are.

Then I take it into Mudbox and I get this:

He's now partly transparent. Can anyone tell me why this is and how I can prevent that? :/

Also the alpha transparency on his whiskers doesn't appear to be working in Mudbox. Is alpha transparency on a plane possible in Mudbox?
