just teach yourself, i know it sounds douchy but it's true you'll learn way more. Just practice and be patient. you'll suck for a bit untill it clicks.
I like how you say you aren't aiming for high quality and then proceed to post an Ashley Wood concept.
I second the suggestion of CTRL+Paint
Just draw all the time, carry a little sketchbook with you, fill all those little moments of down time with drawing.
Buy a sketch book, buy a nice pencil an get going. Look into real life drawing classes, draw still life and work up your fundamentals. Just keep at it and you'll get what you put in.
get a community college painting 101 course where they will ((hopefully)) teach you how to draw objects in the right perspective and apply paint in accordance to light and shadow theory
once you get through your first super-sucky and cringeworthy attempts and take time to think what exactly you're doing wrong, things will go uphil
ps: Ashley Wood can do awesome speedpaints because his painting skill is that strong. you can't do just sum scribblz and expect them to look smh good just because they're unfinished and very suggestive
i'm not aiming for a very high quality, only something like this
just because its rough doesn't mean its something simple you could easily learn how to do. Ashley Wood has been painting for eons. At any one time the dude has 20 or so canvas`s going at one time. His blog is insane, hundreds and hundreds of posts, showing of thousands of canvas`s. If you want advice that's pretty much all there is to it. paint all the time. Skill development comes from repetition and learning what works and what doesn't.
Haha Belias you officially achieved Master Troll status with that Ashley Wood picture.
Only something like ... like that thing here, by one of the best painters in the world hehehe
I'm honestly still confused why people help this dude. Every time he posts a thread you guys give great feedback for resources etc. and yet he continues to troll all of us :P
k i got irritated by the "i'm not aiming for a very high quality, only something like this" statement but i see everything that needed to be said has already been stated.
if nothing else guys, it will help someone else who comes along.
I've found recently that you can buy all the books, and stare at all the greats masterpieces, but until you sit down and continually make shitty stuff, you woln't get any better. it helps if your having fun, but you gota be continually learning.

If you aren't "aiming for a very high quality" why bother at all? The commitment it takes to become a good painter is massive, and becoming even a mediocre painter will also take shitloads of time. So please, go do something else or just use Google instead of starting threads like this. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=painting+course

On the serious note- practice man, just practice. No one(except of you) can make you better than you are.
Hey, thanks for posting the Gnomon link. I bought that after seeing your link and it was really useful stuff!
