Hello.

Often times when Im playing with new shaders and rendering settings my comp starts rendering and the things takes waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy too long and wont let go of maya, leaving my renderview with a black screen as it does its thing. I just want to stop the render and change the settings on the shader, so i press and hold escape but it doesnt do a gosh darn thing. Then, I have to destroy the program in the task manager.

Is there any way around this? Why doesnt it respect my escape keypress?

Escape always works for me, sometimes you'll have to spam the button

    Entity,

I find that that works in some cases. Other times, EVERYTHING seems to get taken over, like my itunes stops playing and the cpu is at 100% and then I usually cant even quit the render or the app and have to do a hard reboot. That happened when I was trying to render an environment a few weeks ago.

    ZacD quad damage
If you want to multitask and not have the render slow your computer, you can tell maya not to use core 0

    taskmanager_set_affinity.gif

It can slow your render by up to 25% if you have a quad, but it wont cause lag issues.
