I wanted to start a thread i can update as i progress. Theme is a sci fi lab. Working off a few pieces of concept that im merging. Using the laser from the global agenda piece and the layout for the room from this piece i found during a search. Going to end up being some kinda of laser testing facility
sure i will when i get home, i was trying to concentrate the scratches on exposable areas that would receive the most wear. Guess i should follow Stefan Morrell tutorial again
Depends on the environment, based upon the OC, it seems like generator would mostly receives dirt then scrtahces, stuff white build-up from residues, black spots at the bottom and finger-prints.
Scratches would (if the generator spins) build up only around the edges of the black cylinders, and they would be pretty big, as in 20% of the cylinders are flaked.
Also, it looks like the cylinders aren't beveled, which is what helps with scratch look, since something beveled is less likely to get damages like that.

For your generator your scratches look a bit random. Also your spec doesn't look very contrasty. Can you post flats?
