So it looks like the horrible dystopian future we feared has come to pass: a bunch of cool games are getting getting fan funded. I used to like Kickstarter back when they were small and only played underground clubs.
Kidding aside: Jordan Weisman has licensed his IP back and wants to make a new Shadowrun that isn't a FPS.
check it out
oh yeah, it's going to ship with the level editor!

Kickstart is interesting and I like this game but is it going to only result in sequels?
Thats kind of what the publishers are already doing. I guess its true the audience do really want they are being given and what they've already had.
Haven't played a good game of Shadowrun in a long time. It's always hard to find a non-fantasy gaming group and even harder to find one willing to do some high-stakes strategic scifi.
I hope this makes it's goal. Not too much time left. All we can do is throw them all our money and spread it around.
It may just be a phase. This whole thing is kinda new, and people are more likely to support known IPs. I bet that after there's a bit of saturation in that, people will be more willing to fund new IPs.
It also has to do with precedent I think. You basically have a bunch of unknown people asking for money. At least if they have a known IP you know somewhat what you're getting. And once they deliver on that, then they're no longer a bunch of unknown people. They're people who have done a project like this before. And then they'd be in a better position to get funds for a brand new IP.
I just hope Kickstarter doesnt go the way of the dodo. Its pretty amazing its working now what with most western economies basically in a depression.
Everything old is new again. I love it.

Dibs on upper Chicago, Kyle Teller, and some insect spirits.
I think kickstarters future with games will largely depend on how well received Tim's new game and Wasteland 2 will be.
This is one I'm pretty excited about. I think I'll be throwing down a not insignificant amount of cash for the chance to finally play a new, proper Shadowrun game.
In that case Rare should do a kickstarter for a new Jet Force Gemini game, I loved that game so much.
The goal was just met, 23 days to go!

I like the rewards they have offered for the various amounts. I want a DocWagon Platinum card.
i believe the two teams are working closely.
Good time to be a Shadowrun fan!
freespace!
That one does seem to be in development limbo though, frontier development should kickstart it up a notch!
Freelancer? Descent? Magic Carpet?
Oh man, I really want all of those. I'm imagining a CE3 powered realtime tesselation powered magic carpet game.
man I was just playing freelancer with my mates there the other day. what an amazing and totally overlooked game.
I remember(or perhaps it was a dream) reading that volition would like to make a new FS game but cant get money for it.
The only big issue right now is the save system in place, it's a CRPG with literally, a checkpoint system like Bioshock Infinite and Co.
Further reading shows they plan on fixing this issue, but could not put in a proper save system due to lack of funds (so they're relying on Pre-Purchases I think) but aren't giving anything concrete.
