I did this for a 300 level class at Ferris State University. I know the hair's crap but other than that how'd I do? any tips on future projects/ how to make hair (with out zbrush's actual hair fibers)?

You can sculpt it, like a classic statue. Its easy, you can use dam_standard brush with add and sub modes to mark each hair lock. You could also use slash 3, and rake or any other to mark finer hair strands. The order you sculpt the locks is important since locks will have other locks on top in a certain direction. There's some tuts in youtube and vimeo. There's not an easy way to do it, I mean, If you wan't your hair to look cool, its going to take a while.

There is a brush I like to use to do hair and beard, it's the Weave brush. With different alphas.

But yeah, Dam Standard is really good for that too. ^^
