Sketchbook: Evan

Hey there polycount. Long time lurker and first time poster here. Until recently I've mostly just fooled around in Maya and ZBrush because we have it at school. It's a fun hobby of mine and as of right now my goal is to conquer Hi-Poly to Low Poly asset creation. This isn't what I plan on doing for a profession (I'm a web/graphic designer) as of right now but again, I'd like to start taking this a bit more seriously. I figured posting my work on this forum would help me tremendously so here I am!

I'll start with an axe I started to model last night. I'm not sure where I found this concept but I keep a folder where I save concepts that catch my eye.

I have some questions as to the flow of the model. I've experimented with adding edge loops to create a HP blade but things seem to flow a bit weird. I've marked some of the spots that I think are a bit... off? for lack of a better word.

    Here's the Concept

And this is what I've got modeled out thus far

Any C&C would be greatly appreciated. In the mean time I plan on modeling the rest of the axe out.

Here's an update with everything blocked in. Again, I'm looking for some C&C. Thanks!

I started a new job this week so I really don't have as much time to finish this as I would like. But I made some progress today. I decided to use the Crease Tool within Maya to make my hard edges and it worked perfectly. I've started making some wear and tear on the blade. I have a question though... Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to make a nice alpha for the decorative segments on the blade/butt of the weapon? I'm going to look at the wiki page but if anyone knows of a tutorial that is particularly excellent I wouldn't mind looking at it. :)

I'm not done but this is my progress for the hour and half I worked on it tonight. It's kind of relaxing after a day of work to listen to your favorite album and do some sculpting.
