Hello,
I'm posting here rather than the job posting forum because I'm not looking for a strong long term commitment, nor can currently provide any payment. If you're still interested, continue following.
I'm leading project management for a conglomerated team of industry professionals who share a common idea. It is all as electron orbitals currently, as we've agreed to follow a congealing development model which we believe is conducive to a creative magnetism often discarded by the corporate industry. First I'll tell you what we're looking for, and then I'll explain a bit more about this specific project.
In this, an exploratory phase, we seek one or two skilled concept artists willing to work pro bono with the agreement of priority hiring if the project realizes. We are looking for only a small number of pieces as visual references of the intended atmosphere, palette, and setting. These images would be used in pitching for investors, and also to assist in project explanation during the following expansion phase. The commitment would be loose, as it is my policy not to pressure those who you aren't paying, though we'd like to be able to agree on some vague date of completion in the next 30 days; a necessity for productivity and prevention of stagnation.
The project is intended to be an unusual first-person RPG. We all feel that in the history of first-person RPGs, leading games paved a trend pathway by which modern first-person RPGs are defined. What we'd like to do is step back ten years and take the genre down a different path, primarily in terms of story-telling, flexibility, and detail. We feel it is an unexplored world of possibility that has been, until now, almost completely overlooked.
The setting is, of course, semi-dystopian, but only within the confines of realistic probability; it is a carefully constructed idea of a potential and reasonable global state in approximately fifty years time. This isn't a game of wild imagination or hopeful yearning for the impossible, but rather a familiar world grown weary. Advancements of technology have long guided the maturing of our global society (think about what you're looking at right now), and consequently they will play a large role in the game's history and present, but it's not the sole influence as in many dystopian-set video games; the intricate web of global players and agendas will be accounted for. We hope to cast off the restrictions created by the current RPG paradigm and open up to the player a great big world with unrestrained possibility, through a reinvented model completely unique in today's video game market.
I hope that I have been able to provide a sufficiently defined idea of the intended project, and I apologize that I'm not allowed to divulge greater detail publicly at this time. If you have interest please respond with a brief summary of your experience. You may either post examples of your work here, or wait until one of us gets in touch with you privately, at which time we would request them. If you've made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read.
