Technical Animator

Description:

The Technical Animator is a liaison between artists and programmers who will work with Animators and Directors to define, document and maintain animation pipelines and rigging solutions. The Technical animator must be able to help the development team drive the artistic and technical goals for character production over all of the studios projects.

Responsibilities:

• Work closely with the Animation Team developing, defining and maintaining animation pipelines and rigging solutions.
• Create animation pipelines, including: Rigging, Animation data flow, skinning, conversion tools and productivity tools.
• Initiative in creating solutions and solving problems.
• Ability to work with team members of other disciplines. Such as, communicating with programmers for implementing character mechanics and physics.

Qualifications:

• Prefer an Associates degree in Fine Art, Computer Graphics or Animation or Bachelor's degree.
• 2 to 5 years technical animation experience shipping at least 2 commercial titles with emphasis on technical animation.
• Expertise Rigging and skinning character meshes.
• Expertise rigging in Maya Software
• Experience with Motion capture data handling, Motion Builder experience a plus.
• Excellent communication skills
• Concrete knowledge of animation pipeline creation and maintenance
• Understanding of the Principles of Animation and how they apply to rigs.
• Concrete understanding of character motion with respect to anatomy
• Solid understanding of Lip-sync/facial animation systems, such as Face FX
• Scripting of animation tools to improve animation workflow, mel or python preferred.
• Task driven, self-motivated & proactive.
• Adapt to changing requirements across a variety of projects.
• Must have a positive attitude and be a team player.
• Create rigs conforming to the technical guidelines of characters needs, including material rigging, physics needs.
• Excellent understanding of character production in UDK.
• Coordinate with Designers, Artists, and Programmers to implement game events.
