Well not one reply or critique at all so I'm assuming you guys think this is either crap or just lame so I made another quick concept this morning for an axe.
I'm right there with ya on no replies I feel your pain lol, I like your first idea a little bit better, I think it as a better weight to it, that being said i think you could exaggerate on it some and really push that goat? skull to menacing
Heh no replies usually means people dont think it's worth posting. I got that a few times in my older threads.
As for your design I'd say BEEF it up. Really make it thick, heavy and less flimsy. If my mace hit your axe it'd destroy it where the arms are and the tips of the wings. Darksiders is all about BIG so work with that theme in mind. Good luck and keep posting, if you get no replies then that's just another form of answer. "Keep going."
awesome feedback. Its what I was looking for. Gonna pump the shapes up! I think i'll try to make both these designs happen.
Rogu3-great idea!
habboi-yes I agree, wish I had a week to sit and concept more ideas. I will thicken up those areas, I got some nice ideas floating in my head.
nice concepts. agreed that both of them don't feel bulky enough. the top concept would work really well as a crowfather weapon IMO. just needs more bulk and big shapes in there.

Well that's certainly a way to help people learn and improve I suppose//
Anyways- I think the new design is okay, but I was digging the ram skull being grasped too I would tilt the head a little bit and add some stress marks especially if it's going to be a hammer.
Hey, I just want to encourage you to keep at it. You are going to improve your skills when you enter something like this so it is an automatic win. 3D Artist is your real job and waiter is just temporary. That's pretty cool you made it to GDC. I hope you guys put on a good show with the project.
Thanks Andrew!
I think I'm still going to use the grasping of the skull but I will make them Raven talons instead. the Handle needs some love too. And stress marks a great idea as well.
I think you need something "big" that connects the head to the handle. As the concept artist in the stream said, it has to take the stress of the impacts.
hey dude. the front is a bit confusing. i would like to see the crow as you did in your concept. right now it just looks like a block is thrown onto the front. It dosen't flow with anything else. the other thing is that the claws need to feel chunky. make the part where the handle connects with the head oversized so it looks like the weight of the head would be supported when you smash something.
as a side note - presentation IMO should be flat color. no need to show the poly paint at this point. make your forms speek for themselves. no gradient background! just make a flat gray background. this makes it easy to do paint overs and does not distract from your model. I would recomend showing your work with the "RS_grey resin" matcap. that is the one bobo mentioned in the live stream. and always has good results for sculpting and presentation.
Thanks for the feedback Brian. Looks like I will have to go back to the orignal crow face anyways as I used some HD geo and have no clue how to decimate it now. I think I will take your guys advice and just get real chunky on the crow beak and skull. Not much time left!
if you have R2 just use dynamesh and sculpt it out. shouldn't be too big of a deal. although i have never used HD geo before so that may be different. I usually never go above 1 - 2 mil for anything i work on.
having some issues with the horns overlapping the skull in the bake. Might have to seperate them off. Blah
3ds max settings are boffed so relying on xnormal.
Nice silhouette as always. I enjoyed following your progress on this. You are the first guy that I know personally on polycount and I was pretty excited when I saw this thread.
Thanks Andrew! Wish I was a bit more of a concept artist. Obviously some people have more following on these forums but at least we were able to get one in on time.
Cheers hope things are going well!

I'm liking the paint-over.
