Evanescfan - I 100% agree with you. the cintiq colours are much more saturated than they should be as it looks a lot different on my laptop screen... probably the same as your screen.
As this is only a concept, I am not too worried, but I will change it up a bit anyway to more closely represent what I want. Anxious to see what you come up with .
I really like the concept but its too sinister looking to be angelic. there's a lot of sharp points like the horns above the angel and the blades and even the horns on the pommel. If I just look at the silhouette it reads more as a demonic weapon than an angelic one.
Sukotto - thanks and I can see your point. I may give the concept a look over and possibly remove the horns by having the go back into themselves to create a loop instead... or something like that.
Habboi - thanks. as for the lines, I can see how it would work with the hammer as it is a large chiseled piece of "angelic" stone or whatever, but look at the scythe blade, there are no lines running through it. I also think those hammer lines were added to mimic the feathers on the other side of the hammer head.
I like the design, but it looks like the face of the axe blades is pretty flat and even with just the details extruded out and in. I don't get a good sense of shape from it like I do from your concept. I'd try to make more slopes and angled faces between details and make the slopes steeper on the existing details so they read better visually and in a normal map. I think it would also look cool to make the inside edges of the axe blade be more pushed back than the cutting edge, that is the sense I get from the concept.
Any plans to add more damage or inperfections to it? It's looking very sterile and clean. I think even the angelic stuff in Darksiders isn't totally perfect and still has minor imperfections and things. It would help out for visual interest.
Hey Frump
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe it is simply the angle of the shot but there is some fairly diverse heights in the topology. I will consider adjusting when a check again.
imperfections? yes of course. This is only the max model and nothing else. I still need to mudbox it and texture it. so yes, we are on the same page in that respect.
As far as welcome to the community... I've been a member for about 5 years... just more of a lurker though as I do the majority of my competitions on other sites. This one just happened to interest me. I'm kinda losing interest though so we'll see if I continue or not.
Southpaw Sid - thanks. yah I understand about distance recognition and have already increase some of the damage on the the center piece. My biggest concern though is I need to stay away from putting TOO much and TOO severe amount of wear as the Angel weapons seem to be a bit cleaner and less beaten than the others.

when comparing with the angelic examples however, I can't help but feel the whites are too bright

I like this. still seems very powerful but not as demonic.
another update.. tweaking colours. I have a bit more to go but I think I am aiming much closer now to a finished product.
adjusted angel part and retopped.

Bobo - thanks a bunch. I hear yah. I will probably remove it as it isn't sitting well with me either.
I got rid of the Siren... er... I mean the jewel..
haha, I can attest to that^^^
Nice sculpting! Remember to think pretty big and noticeable from a distance in terms of damage to the weapon ;D
love to see how the low poly will be arranged on this one.
