Well after a long shitty night of nothing working I won't be able to enter the contest my low poly turned to shit and I can't get anything close, heres what I have and its at about 17k tris, I had a low poly mesh but I couldn't get textures to bake properly
going to start modeling probably today or tomorrow for the first full axe design, I think I may do something different with the crow bust on the bottom maybe turn it to a profile view?
No need to reserve posts like that, just make new posts as you get further into the project and update the first post with what ever is new when you want. No one reserves posts like that here.
Also your images are way too big given the amount of detail in them, The Maya screens are blurry too. Scale them down by about half.
When painting, don't use a pure white background if you intend to add any color to your piece as it is liable to throw your sense of contrast off, plus its harder on the eyes. You might also want to check out some concepting tutorials like the one Murph did for 3DMotive, or just check out ctrl+Paint.
Maybe it's just me, but it seems like this wouldn't be very sturdy. Maybe you should modify or add to the attachment from the handle to the skull. It appears as if there is just a spear jammed through it which would come lose when hacking at things.
Hey thanks for the reply, I've been trying to figure out a solution for that Clyptic, because I agree completely, I kinda have a metal plate at the entry point between the vertebrae, maybe just add some melted metal at the exit between the spear head? any thoughts?
Mmmk so started modeling this is what I've got so far, I know something wonky is goin down in my mesh messing up my renders etc, trying to figure that out now, and I need to figure out the best way to do the Eye sockets etc, any tips or advice would be apreciated.
Hey guys need some help, tying to figure out what is going to be the best way to do the Eye sockets etc, should I do that in mudbox or find a way to do it maya Effectively also anyideas as to whats going on with that grayish splotchyness goin on?
It's personal preference really, since in the end the cavity's will just be normal mapped anyway. I personal prefer to sculpt out those type of things in zbrush or mudbox. As far as the grey geometry I don't know what would be causing it other than faulty geometry. If u have multiple saves u could just try importing another version of it.
Looks like z-fighting to me. Two planes that are basically facing the same direction that are intersecting. Probably the fastest thing to do from here would be to retopologize on top of the area object that is having those problems then subdivide it. That would probably help make it look less blobby too. If you have a way of selecting the planes behind the one in front you could try expanding the selection and deleting those as well.
