so yeah I set up and old pc for internet browsing and it works fine, BUT
the bios keeps on resetting itself when turn it on in the morning.
It says that the cpu speed caused the system to hang, but it's not overclocked. Any ideas?
Try setting the CMOS clear jumper back and forth and see if it does it again
it's also possible there may be some software overclocking going on as well, maybe you have one on by accident. I'm guessing you have AMD, which doesn't really throttle down when it heats up, really needs decent cooling for those to work well.
leilei - cheers yeah I will try the cmos clear trick.
might it not be the cmos battery? its quite an old pc (2003)
asus motherboard (pentium 4) I believe
Don't think its a software issue as I have just reformatted and reinstalled xp
Yeah, I was going to say, it's probably the battery. If it's been sitting around for a long time, that battery may have gotten drained. I've had them last a LONG time, but maybe that one wasn't as good
ok cool notman I will have a dig around for another battery.
It sat around for at least 3 years, maybe more. perhaps I should have shown it more love:)
