F looks like the best too me so far but the handle and pommel is kinda lacking the same detail from what the top has because its going from awesome to good to ok but thats just me
I like F as well, but it's lacking the solid, chunkiness of B + C because it's supposed to function as a blunt weapon and fit in with darksiders style. I don't think that the detail is too busy. Good start.
I like B alot. what you could do is give the wings a little more sharpness, and i think the wraps around the handle don't seem to go so well with the angelic style!
all tough i do like F as well it has kind of an shamanic feel to it (probably because of the wood-like handle transition with the rings around it)
Thanks guys. I'm going to keep working on D as well. F is where I started and B is where I ended up. Still getting a feel for the style, but I'll post an update ASAP.
Starting to get a better feel for the style and started with the highpoly mesh..
The concept has a few ideas mashed into it. I want to make sure the "blades" are blunt and have some meat to them, I know the concepts have an axe feel to them. Once I duplicate these shapes around the object the mace should become more apparent.
A couple shots from Maya before I GoZ (very useful for carrying over Creased Tool work from Maya to ZBrush).
A quick concept paintover with some different ideas. I like having a stoic face on the end (it could show signs of wear, broken nose, chips, etc) but not sure if that is combating with the priest statues in the middle. On the other hand, the overlapping wings would be nice big blunt shapes..
Any critique is welcome, I'm trying to mix DS detail with big shapes as to not lose anything when low poly. Also, color. Maroon with offwhite? Dark Blue/Purple with Gold?
