Great contest and great stuff in here as always.
This is my entry. Just a sketch at the moment. I'm not very sure about the pommel and I think the spike on top is too symmetrical, so I probably revisit them on the render and colour stage. All comments and suggestions are of course very apreciated.

Love that ghostly handle! I like the direction of the axe head as well. Was thinking maybe it would look more interesting if you removed the secondary blade and extended the flames from the head and made them chunkier and blade-ish.

Thats looks pretty cool man, but I think you need to change the proportions a bit, to fit the reference given by bobo.

AimBiz: That sounds awesome. I was getting trouble about the integration of the head into the axe. The idea was the demon rising from within the weapon, and I get lost a bit with that. I`ll give it a try.

Echronos: Yeah I just noticed that. But well isn't a big problem right now. I'll adjust the proportions when I get the finish design.

I say stick a kink in that spike on top so it's less symmetrical and it'll be tasty! Not sure that the tentacles on the pommel really fit with the rest of the design though, I don't think the pommel needs to be overly complicated.

Here´s an update of the design progress.



I think I solved the problem with the secondary blade. When I tried to use the same pattern of "flames" to make the blade, I noticed that the color was boring, so I change and get new ideas, like the tail/tongue, to make more interesting that side of the axe, and less monochromatic. Tomorrow I'll finish some more details left and the pommel.
What do you think till now?

Hey, like them shapes you got going on. Will the creature be thick or a flatter detail on the blade. Just thinking that it might look weird with the main blade cleaving the head of the creature.

Thanks. The creature is rising from within the blade, so is more like flatter detail but still thicker than just the blade of course. I think it's going to work and I hope to no get much problems in 3D, but who knows. What I'm still worried about is if it sticks well with the style of the game. Anyway I don't want to give more time to design if not mandatory.
