I figured I'll join in this awesome comp as well! Not sure I'll make it for the deadline due to other projects running, but we'll see!
Still undecided which type I'm going for so here are some doodles. None of them really speak to me yet so I've got to do me some more of those.

9 looks like it could be really interesting. The right side of the blade looks like a lions head to me...or a helmet.

I like 9, and sort of 8. 8's head feels a tad small. 9 looks the most unique.

I tried out some variations on 9, and they all looked like generic demonic axes... So I took 32 and ended up mashing that in to a crow temple mace.
Because Crow Temple rocks mah socks.

So, here's a one hour sketch of what I had in mind. Gonna have to make some variations on the shaft and pommel though. Thoughts and crits are obviously very welcome!

Looking good mate. I like the bottom row of crows, but I think perhaps the silhouette/pose of the top row of crows could be pushed a bit more. I like the direction you're going, looking forward to seeing this develop

afisher: Cheers for the suggestion! I actually got rid of the top crows altogether, it was a tad much.

But anyway, finally managed to find a spec of time to work on this!
Sort of final concept as I'm not all that sure about the handle transition and the handle itself, but I kinda like the skull and the pommel.

Cheers guys! Gonna have little time this week, but I'm hoping to start rocking in zbrush soon.

RavenSlayer: The entire head are 3 birds sitting on top of that skull.
afisher: That is actually a low poly skull I made for the lulz of it. I thought it turned out nifty enough to use in a concept.

dig the design, might keep in mind your poly count with those feathered edges, especially when you are gonna have that wing repeated 2 more times.. Maybe play doing another design just adjusting the feathers into larger clumps , might also help sport the geometrical design going on in the wing.

onelung: Indeed! I actually started doing that earlier because I came to the same conclusion. I'm also making those edges bulkier and sharper as well.

I doubt I'll be able to finish this in time as I've got a lot going on right now, but I'll try!
