Drew up a couple of concepts that I'm still deciding on, thought I'd get some opinion on it before going further.

The handle bars will be longer in the final of course and if I can complete one to my liking then I may start on another weapon, as of now I am 50/50 on which axe I should do.

Demonic Axe, I had this idea in my head of a weapon that had a beating heart that beats faster as more blood is drawn, like a vampire. Seeing the heart animated would be pretty cool too, but too bad I guess.

Worked on the angel axe concept a bit and created two variations of what I already had.






I kind of prefer the first one over the second, but I guess I need to make it fit the Joe Mad/Darksiders art style more. Crits/Comments appreciated.

Still unsure about the colors, I'm afraid of adding too much gold and at the same time I don't want to give it too many different colors. I'll probably experiment a little more.

I like the design of the axe,. the direction of the pose gives it a dynamic feel. Cool, looking forward to some sculpting.

Decided to change the pose so that the figure is situated a little better on top of the handle transition. Still not quite where I think it should be but I think I'll figure that out when I start sculpting.

Wow, you've got a bunch of interesting stuff going on here, but it honestly feels like a bunch of separate pieces just chunked together. You've got a lot of different pattern arrangements and some work with and against your overall composition. I'd say isolate a few themes that really work and then spread them out in appropriate intervals. Also, keep the details large. Small texture sheets won't pick up a lot of the mini detail you've got going on in areas like the pommel. Cheers!

Awesome, thanks for the input Suburbum. You hit the nail, I was a bit indecisive on the pommel and grip honestly. I'll eliminate some details that don't work.

Decided to change a couple of things. The pose of the figure made the composition of the axe feel a bit too cluttered, so I changed the pose to a more subtle position. I removed a couple of things to give the axe a better silhouette. Still a lot of refining to do, axe damage is too large and the wings need flow a bit more

Created a rough low poly mesh and a test bake. It came out more lumpy than I had hoped, might go refine the sculpt a bit more. AO and Normal maps applied.
