Hi, I'm part way through skinning a model of a spongebob character for my sister, and its taking a long time because I've got hardly any experience in this field, but I've kind of got the hang of it again, (I did one years ago of Lara Croft for UDK, but that was my only finished rig attempt out of many!). Basically whats happening is, I'm trying to "weight" some vertices individually, but for some reason, some of them seem to be permanently stuck on "full weight/red", no matter what I do in the weight tool, or with the "abs effect" slider.
The verts in question are a ring of them, forming one part of the neck, which are being influenced by the head bone (thats obviously bad lol). Theres been other times when this has happened too, but I cant remember them thanks to my great memory!
BTW I'm using CAT bones if that means anything.
What can I do about this? Has anybody else had this problem?
Edit: Okay, there are NUMEROUS verts on this model that just plain REFUSE to have their weight reduced to less than 100%, which is causing problems big enough to ruin the whole rig (as you can imaging), which I've spent hours on... What the hell is going on here!? The only thing that allows me to change the weight of these reluctant verts is to untick "normalise" (whatever THAT does), BUT that causes an even WORSE problem, and practically removes those verts from the skin modifier, so they dont move at all anymore...
Thanks

So the ring of verts you're having trouble with around the neck should probably be assigned to a neck bone...
I've been in a couple of situations where I've needed some verts to just "move" with the character and didn't really need to be affected - so I created a bone that simply moves along with the master controller for the character and weighted those verts to that.
