Been working a little more on concept. I felt the original crows might not fit the exact style of Vigil.
Here is a base silhouette and some experimenting in Zbrush. The blades in the concept looked off and got the idea of the blades to look like bird talons.
Here is my latest update, getting ready to start sculpting! Excited to see what I can come up with, been studying the Darksiders art style, hope I am up for the task.
Sculpting is pretty much done, going to do a damage pass. Did a quick paint over to get a feel for my color scheme. Let me know what you think. I really would love some feedback.
Ok, ran into a problem. Iv taken a step back from this piece and cant shake the feeling that this dosnt fit in the Darksiders Universe. Am I being to hard on myself or am I correct in this situation? I feel that if I were to restart this mace I would be to far behind to finish it within my spare time. So if anyone had suggestions or any feedback at all would be nice.
I think the feeling you cant shake is that it isn't chunky enough. Especially for a mace. If you want to try and salvage the work you have done so far then I would suggest trying to come up with something that can fill that negative space under the head of the mace, behind all the talons.
I have to agree with what you both said. I went back last night and reworked the neck of the mace and made it a bit bulkier and I think it looks much better. Thanks for you help, its funny how a pair of fresh eyes can help a project. Let me know what you think.
Yea, I have to play with the scale a bit. Trying to get everything within the confines of the supplied proxy mesh. Did a quick paint over of the newest design. I have made some progress on making the low poly, but its moving along quiet slow.
I think your mace spikes might be a little too curved for the art style. Maybe consider adding in a bit more angularity to them. Otherwise this has been and interesting one to watch as the design has gotten stronger and stronger. Good work SnakeDoctor.
Good idea with making the talons angular, its an easy thing to do and I think that it will help my piece fit more with the Darksiders style. Should have an update later.
Ok, got my test bake done and everything seems to be in working order. As it sits, it at 1596 tris, which is barley over the limit but BOBO said we had a little wiggle room. Hope the texturing process will go smoothly...
Started the texturing, I figure this is a good base, Got to paint the lighting and highlights in still, maybe add some more colors, but its close to being done. What do you guys think? Texturing is my weakest ability so I would love some crits. Thanks guys
Quick update got some fake lighting painted on. Got to do the highlights and then the spec map. Might take Bo Bo up on his offer about making another weapon in 24 hours .
Been working really hard texturing the past day. Hope you guys like the results, would love feedback as texturing is a skill I need to work on. Contest due tommorow, I am hyperventilating...

@SpareParts-I don't know what to do with the top yet I am still conceptualizing out a few rough ideas.
