top 5 in each category were contacted to submit their work for closer inspection. We have received them all and will be announcing the top three in each category this week. We will release the names of the top 15 tomorrow through polycount News.
Yeah should be interesting to see who won. Although I've got a nasty itch now. The kind where you want to swing your virtual creation around but cant. I wonder if you can mod the PC version ^^
wow, congrats all nice work !
But honestly I thought the weapons exceeded 1500 triangles were not taken into consideration for this contest, have always been taught that if there is a budget of triangles must not be exceeded, even of 10 triangles, but I've seen some with 1800 - 2000 tris, 1/3 of triangles more than the maximum ^^
Is useful knowing this for future contests, congrats again to all !
Bobo said that it's a loose tri limit, so it isn't a problem to exceed it by a few hundred. Some of them were higher than that, but I guess they didn't want to disqualify cool weapons.
As for future contests, make sure you know what's acceptable by the people running it.
You misunderstand Raven. Facebook picture upload quality sucks balls and the difference between Orbs and the other two axes is the overall texture density which doesn't come off well in the facebook pics.
In other words it's like I took Orbs pics, shrunk them to 25% scale, saved them as a JPG so it's pixelated and then take a picture with Death holding it so it's even further back denying the quality even more.
In case you haven't noticed I'm a presentation nut.
oh like that i thought you meant the way they presented the weapons themselves. Yeah sure it would have been better to have some HR shots linked in there as well
Habboi: You're excluding the fact that we were developing items from the outside. None of us were developing directly for their engine, so any pipeline compression that occurs may treat some peoples' work more poorly than others. There is some JPG artifacting, yes, but I think they're all about the same visual quality so there really isn't an issue. It'd be more of an issue if one was clearly very high res and the others were very harshly artifacting.
Gah this is getting silly. I'm merely talking about the presentation. I think it would just be better if they used hi-res close-up screenshots using an external source rather than Facebook. Not to mention I have some friends who want to vote but don't use Facey.
It seems using Facebook is proving to be pretty cool, though. Lots of people use it and between the 3 axes there has already been an excess of 5000 votes within one day, which is pretty darn impressive. I never thought this contest was going to generate so much hype on the FB page.
Yeah there's no denying it's effective. One of the comments irritated me though. Something about Orbs just plain sucking. Oh how I'd love to ask him in person why he thinks that.
Edit: Just to emphasize my point, here's a comment based on the low quality picture which I am sure affected overal votes.
"It's nice but from this picture it looks poorly textured. I can see all the squares etc, please clean that up for the release? :]"
As for hateful comments, you just need to ignore them. No matter what it is, if something's on the internet and open to the public like this, some people will say they hate it for whatever reason.

Why is that ?
Was very hard to narrow the entries down. Gongrats to all!
Note: From these 15, 3 from each category will go on to the voting stage.

I figured I should focus on personal work without any constraints, or texture/poly budget.
I'll remember you while playing darksiders 2
Cant wait to see who's I'd meet in the game

I think they all look great in-engine, JPG aside!

Hristo's axe won. Congrats to him.
