Going ahead and creating the Darksiders II weapon challenge thread because I am super pumped for this! Never having done anything like it though I know its going to be tough, but I really really want this.

I am a sophomore Game Art & Design major attending Ringling College of Art & Design taking on this challenge because I simply love Darksiders, it is probably my favorite game. I haven't been in the process of modeling and designing long but I hope that my passion fuels my creative juices and at least gets me recognized in this competition.

I will be creating a weapon for each category but I wanted to start with the axe just because I like it most out of the group.

Thanks Habboi for the good luck wishes and the same to you man! I don't have the goal in mind to win (ok maybe thats a lie lol) but I do want to do my best and make something I can be proud to show off.

Just some rough dirty quick sketches both photoshop and in sketchbook to try and toy around with different themes and ideas.


Some sketches I started in my sketchbook, it's where I got my favorite sketch out of todays collection.


Decided to go into Photoshop and try drawing there as well.


This was my favorite sketch that came out today but I don't really want to stick with one thing just yet.

Wish I had more sketches to put on but with school I don't have as much extra time as I would like. Luckily for me, "spring break is coming."

Just an update of more sketches I did today, still in the area of 'no clue what I want to do' lol. In the next day or so I definitely want to have my theme picked, by tomorrow, and the selection down to maybe two or three weapons so I can really start refining.


Just a few more sketches to finish it off for today, well yesterday, nothing fancy really.


My favorite one out of this batch was probably either the Angelic axe with multiple pieces all connected by an inner blade on the first page or the demonic face with the axe coming out of his mouth.

Of the four black silhouettes at the top, I REALLY like the 3rd (if you're looking from left to right), or at least where you can go with the big blade-little blade-big blade thing. I'd love to see more work on that one, Tylo! Maybe Kingdom of the Dead?

Oh the last page with the big, small, and then big blade. I thought of it more as Angelic but yeah I could play around with Kingdom of the Dead with it probably!

I agree with the previous posts the 3rd silhouette on the last page looks like the strongest of all your concepts (to me).

So trying to get a final idea for what I want my axe to look like. This was an Angelic themed axe I came up with, I really liked the blade while the other stuff is kind of place holder till I can think of something better looking to replace it with.

Some quick cheap color and also the in-between blue part of the blade is supposed to be glowing.

Perhaps your 3D model will come out better but your drawing makes me think it's really tiny. Darksiders is all about "chunky" shapes. Keep going, you have a long way to go

Thanks Habbol and yeah I don't know why but my process has been pretty slow for this challenge. I think I'll try working on this weapon and making a last concept or two and then moving onto the 3D part.

Yeah I think I made the blade small in comparison to the middle that is holding the blade. I'm definitely going to try and sit down and really get out a good 2-3 hour concept piece since I think this may be the way I go.
