I'm pretty sure kobayashi is the starting point for a lot of modern mecha design. He did all the vehicle designs for venus wars! I thought it was good enough to share.
And Maschinen Krieger is an old Japanese table top game that has some impeccable design.
Ma.k, a very potted history....Ma.K started as a serialisation in Hobby Japan called SF3D a sort of comic strip come sci fi adventure played out with stills featuring powered armour suits kitbashed from several other sources , which then had the designs converted into model kits themselves sold through nitto, but I dont think its ever been a tabletop game unfortunatly ( that would be ace though)....Kow was the original model maker who ended up with the rights at the end of the series and changed the name to Maschinen Krieger or Ma.K (cos its easier to type ) I think it was about 2009 that Hasegawa started producing new kits and re-issues of the old nitto stuff so nowadays they aren't so damned tricky to get hold of....I just wish I had the time to build a few
another guy to look at for really bloody good mecha designs is Luca Z : http://kallamity.com/
If you prefer your big walky ww2 tank type mechs then Paolo Parente's dust is worth a look too: http://dust-models.com/
Maschinen Krieger is pretty much our go-to inspiration for mech design on Hawken.
Do you have pics of mechs inspired by them? I know you said he's the go-to inspiration but I never actually caught that. I love Hawken's designs and MK's and would love to see/read more about this!
Believe me, I'd love to show off some of our stuff but it's still hush hush
In the coming months I think we're going to start featuring a variety of mechs in our videos, currently we've pretty much only shown the "prototype" mechs.

But I was under the impression that Kow Yokoyama was the design mastermind
Oh man, these have such a retro feel! Love em, thanks for linking.
