for the last month or so i've been working with a few other guys on a little mech RTS in Unity. we're aiming to have everything done by the end of april. i'm the sole artist on the team which means i'm doing all the env stuff, all the mechs, UI, particles, etc.
spent the first couple weeks grounding the style and setting and gathering references but for the last two weeks i've been able to focus on actually making assets, so i think it's time to start posting them. i'm having loads of fun with it and would love to get feedback as the project develops, especially where there's still lots of time to incorporate it
this is the first mech i finished up,
he's on a 1024, diffuse and normal with a black and white spec (only because we're planning on just using the default unity shaders)
my general process is, I started by making a variety of modular mech parts in HP and then making lows/uving and attaching together for final bakes and texturing. here are some of the HP parts -
here's a little tanky unit -
and some environment stuff -
i also have some foliage but 3ds viewport has some shitty alpha sorting problems, so i'll get some unity shots for those asap.
anyway, thanks for looking, feedback always appreciated
will post up more stuff as I get the chance

i'm thinkin they're a bit plain right now, def. gonna go back later and add faction logos and stuff, once those things are nailed down (the story isnt really finalized yet, so)
When you get to the faction logos, etc. take a look at the weapons from Brink. They have a cool level of personalization with paint/decals/etc
these pieces are too awesome!
Hope you're charging for this ;P What platforms are you releasing on?
I agree that a little color wouldn't hurt. You could easily do a few color variations on a bunch of assets and get instant diversity (...at least a bit more). Blue painted pools, different roofing colors, different wall materials (brick, vinyl, stone, colored windows etc.) You probably planned this tho.
Can't wait for more.
I agree with people that a few color pops would help it out, now it's very monotone.
Either way solid work.
Anyway crit wise man, i think you are going to have to check your readability in a scene, these units are mostly one single really dark brown colour or similar colours, and if they are sitting on dirt you are going to have serious readability issues.
I see the inspiration, but I don't see any blatant copying going on.
Anyways can't wait to see this at gamerez. Post pics of full screenshots when you have em!!
Are you joking?
