Created landscape invisible and not on origo

Hello. I'm using the January 2012 beta build of UDK. Desperately trying to get the Landscape stuff to work but to no avail.

After opening UDK Editor, creating a blank map/preset map, I open the tool, enter something recommended like 4033 x 4033, 505 x 505, 63 x 63 and so forth and the appropriate component and section size. Then I hit create and it populates the UI with all the buttons.

It creates the actor and an icon in world space. But the actual landscape is not visible and I'm thusly unable to sculpt the fucking thing.

I thought maybe it needed some strange DX11 feature, but changing renderer does not fix it.

Googling have so far turned up nothing, I seem to be the only one with this problem.

Anyone have any pointers? Or should I just give up and use the old terrain system, or build the terrain in Modo?

Addendum 1:

Should also note that it creates the landscape totally off center, usually with all the coordinates set to a value in the thoousands. Repositioning it doesn't help :(
