So I'm attempting to do Spash Damage's art test and had a few questions in mind.. When dealing with subtle details like the indentations in a highpoly model, should I actually physically model those out or would be okay if I just did them in photoshop, after the baking process.
What I'm asking is really whether most companies would like to see those elements physically in the model (for the sake of the art test atleast). I know personally it'd be much easier and faster to just do them in photoshop, but I'm worried that a company may look down on that..

The benefit of modeling is you have a nice looking high detail mesh.
Either way, whatever yields the best result in the least amount of time.
Even if it was a production asset, I know a lot of developers would want the larger panel lines in the highpoly.
Float it man. It looks the same in the Normal Map.
The only thing that ever matters with anything is the result. Process means nothing, and is always changing.
