I believe Polycount mods are busy guys, and this way there´s some threads that deserves to be highlighted in PC showcase, but are missed, simply because the right people doesn't see them in time.
So, I'm starting this thread to everyone point out threads that they think that has exceptional artwork, and are inspirational. Threads that represents "The Best of Poycount" and should be put into PC showcase.
I think that doesn't matter if the thread is old or recent, just if it has breathtaking artwork, that make us want to be better Polycounters
It might help if you made a showcase banner image for them, less work for the mods to hook it up.
But, yeah, it would be cool to have more of these in rotation.
Hehew, no thanks.. I've been working 10, 12h a day six days for week. On free time I prefer to work on my personal stuff and go to the gym. If mods decide to put these threads on showcase, they will add proper banners themselves.
I think the banners should stick to personal projects IMO. Anyone can easily see art for games but its the personal work I think that should be showcased and made into a banner.
Not to say the work above isnt fantastic, because it is, but I just personally think it would be cooler to showcase personal art projects then production art. Gives the people making art that isnt seen all that often a little more exposure, because honestly, I really doubt Gears of War needs anymore exposure, or any other super triple A game. Just my 2cents.
Agreed with the personal stuff only. There might even be legal issues with commercial stuff.
That said, there should really be much, much more stuff in the PC showcase...
Not only do I prefer seeing personal work, but I'd have to give the nod to the projects that had WIP threads. I like seeing the final product of course, but seeing the progress is more beneficial to a forum. Regardless, as long as its still amazing artwork, no matter the circumstance, I'm happy to see it in the banner.

Pretty much spot on.
Great personal work is so much more thrilling to see.

I'm in 100% agreement with this. The Polycount showcase should be about stuff that's on Polycount. PC has been known for a while as a place where you can go to post WIP stuff and get critiques. I'd like to think that the banners showcase the work that comes from those WIPs and critiques.

jon rush's tomb raider models were banners for a while.
I don't think the Showcase/banners are necessarily intended to show off all the awesome work that goes on here, one look through 2 or 3 pages of the WAYWO thread is enough for someone to realize that there is a huge amount of exceptional work which deserves to be seen.
Not to say that the ones which are currently in there don't fully deserve to be there, they are all fantastic pieces on their own, but what the showcase does do a great job of showing are the threads which truly highlight why Polycount is such a great community; most of the threads in there currently do this with the exception of one or two. Jason's Demon Throne is fantastic to read through because you see how much criticism from others he truly listened to and took into account, and how much better that environment is because of it. Same with Jessica's new one, the amount of progress is inspirational and pretty amazing, and much of that progress was her listening to the feedback and applying it to her work and what she ended up with is fantastic, again, because of both her effort and willingness to take critique.
I'm not sure art from games should belongs there, because if the threshold of getting your work in the showcase is just it being exceptionally strong, half of the stuff posted on Polycount would end up there.
Agree, personal work with decent wip progress and info on construction should be bannered. Stuff that is wow, but also helpful for people to learn from. Thats the spirit of what we want to see on Polycount, so thats what should be held up as examples of great work imo.

It will be easier for them to decide what you want them to decide if you decide to help out. Just a suggestion. Remember that the mods are volunteers, not paid. You don't have to, anyone who's interested could do it.
