Sculpting/Texturing rigged model in Mudbox?

I have a character tht's been UV'ed and about to move it to Mudbox for texturing but the problem is the model has already been rigged.

So just wanna ask if exporting the character from maya as fbx then back to maya will affect or even remove the rig? Or will there be other complication involved in this process?

Thanks in advance !

Since the texture that you will make with mudbox is a texture file, the mesh will not be impacted by the process. A rig/skin in maya can have whatever shader that you want, you can change it even after the skinning phase, this have no impact on the skin/rig.

You don't need to reimport you mesh after the texturing, simply save the texture somewhere with mudbox and then load it in maya. :)

I would not try to send a fully rigged character to mudbox then back to maya. that in inself is a needless complication that you don't need to do. a good rule is to keep it as simple as you can.

take your character into the bind pose.

strip out the rig and export just the geometry with no hierarchy.

paint and export maps as Froyok noted.

unless you have some unique reason to pose your character as you paint there is no reason to even have joints in mb. i have never needed that.
