I would like to know a way to achieve this as well.
My best option right now is to make the tiled shot with the asset in a blank scene, then use the wand tool in Photoshop.

Just create a set of materials using ARGB as color, and apply them to specific models maybe? Multiple masks in one render.

Why not make a material that isn't lit, plug a full green into the emmissive (or whatever colour would be easy to key out), and uss that on a mesh or bsp as the background.

↑↑ Yup, that's what I used to do in 3DS Max before .png transparency was introduced ↑↑
Make your own Green Screen (or whatever colour isn't used in your scene by anything else).
