Hey everyone, this is a project I have been working on. Recreation of a LEGO set, King's Carriage. Still a lot to be done with this. There is no texture yet, its just Hypershade colors from MAYA, even if LEGOs don't have much to texture, lol.
BTW, the high poly count is because of the carriage. I created each piece and put it all together just like how you build a real LEGO set. Each building piece has the hold and open space underneath. So it is not optimized for a game yet.
And yes, no King yet, lol.
All C&C welcome!

I would create some mountains in the background to really ground the scene. And a ground texture with the little lego pegs on it would be great to see. They dont need to be modled out, could just be a normal map and then throw in some dirt/grass color variation. There were quite a few lego sets with "blended" ground pieces.
Anyways, onto the crits. I think you need to add the black lines that you would usually see between pieces. Just to help each piece stand out.
It does bring back some very fond memories of my childhood. In fact I probably would not be in 3d art today had it not been for building with my lego pieces when I was younger.
It looks great!
@slipsius Like the instruction booklets that come with the sets? Hmm... interesting. That would make it stand out better.
@Tobbo Exactly why I wanted to make a LEGO set.
@vreza Thanks
Wire frames coming soon. Had no time today.
Your horses' eyes don't exactly match the toys. They're too big, and the black ones shouldn't have the off-center dot.
I'd like to see the little pegs bumped out of the ground, but that's probably not possible with game specs. The ground in the background is angled, which you don't really see in actual lego sets. They're either done with flat diagonal/vertical areas with pegs on top, or custom style, sort of like minecraft.
true, now that i look at it the eyes are too big. will have to fix that.
hmm, but for the black horse, true that the style should be the circle eye. although when i had it the circle eye before it looks horrible with the horse helmet thing on. You can not tell there is an eye there. So I just changed it for more of a an artistic standpoint there so it looks better.
Ya deciding on the ground and background took a while. I almost went the style of all the games and shows. Might changed it to that #2 idea you had, but we shall see.
